JOB TITLE: Manufacturing Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the manufacturing processes for electric power distribution products such as portable power canters, panels, and switchboards. This role drives continuous improvement, cost reduction, manufacturing routings development, BOM creation, process design, and new product introduction support. The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates closely with Production, Design Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing routings, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accurate production planning and execution.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes for the assembly and integration of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality enhancement, process efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Provide day-to-day manufacturing support, troubleshooting assembly issues, equipment downtime, quality defects, and process bottlenecks.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to identify workflow improvements and implement sustainable solutions (Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts (FMEA, 8D, DOE) and support root cause analysis for production issues.
  • Partner with New Product Development (NPD) and Engineering to integrate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles into new designs and support product launches into production.
  • Collaborate with engineering to create and modify BOMs and routings for both new products and existing product changes.
  • Participate in new product pilot builds, assist with tooling and fixture development, and support scaling into full production.
  • Design and fabricate jigs, test fixtures, and tooling to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for production equipment.
  • Support Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to drive cost savings and product optimization.
  • Maintain ISO and UL compliance requirements across all manufacturing activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Domestic travel up to 10% to vendors, suppliers, or additional Power Temp facilities.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of manufacturing engineering theory, processes, and practices.
  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing engineering, process design, and electrical assembly practices.
  • Proficient in BOM creation, routings management, and process documentation.
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing methodologies and structured problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards (e.g., UL, NEC) related to power distribution equipment.
  • Effective project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts - Kaizen, value stream mapping, Kanban, demand flow technology, line balancing & time studies.
  • Expert on core manufacturing documentation – PFMEAs, PCPs, PFDs, DFA/DFM, and all aspects of manufacturing in a high-volume environment and engineering change processes.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, and compliance-oriented, and attention to detail.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to deliver the message to any level of the organization, with clarity and precision required at each level.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in electrical assembly, mechanical assembly, or industrial equipment manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining BOMs, routings, and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems for production planning and documentation.

Preferred:

  • Experience with UL compliance for power distribution products.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP system.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent.
  • ISO 9001 manufacturing environment experience.
