Description & Requirements
Bloomberg News is looking for a Managing Editor to run two important teams whose journalism stretches across our global newsroom: Equality and Management & Work.
This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced editor to shape the conversation around questions at the center of global capitalism. The successful candidate will guide coverage of how equality intersects with business, finance and economics, in societies as disparate as Trump's US, post-Brexit UK and the Global South. At the same time, they will shape the newsroom's inquiry into how executives around the world devise organizational strategies and wield power in response to an increasingly volatile world.
In both cases the managing editor for Equality and Management & Work will grapple with some of the most burning questions facing business, finance and politics: Who has power? Who doesn't? How does capitalism shape those disparities? And what ideas are driving the leaders who shape capitalism?
The editor in this role will be expected to expand the impact and influence of two creative verticals inside the newsroom. Both the Equality and Management & Work franchise should showcase a multimedia, interdisciplinary approach to business journalism, taking form across newsletters, print, events, video and audio as well as the Bloomberg Terminal. We want to use all these formats to bring the conversation around power and how it is used to our influential audience.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for two teams of reporters and editors and will be expected to deliver sharp, timely and creative journalism across a broad range of topics. Output will include everything from scoops and explainers to big-picture enterprise stories and data-driven projects. Breaking news is an important part of both beats, requiring an editor who can identify and elevate the most compelling emerging stories. We're looking for someone with proven abilities as a story doctor and a wellspring of ideas. We also need a consummate newsroom diplomat who can mobilize collaborations and source stories from beyond the team.
YOU WILL HAVE:
* A proven track record of collaborating with reporters and editors to break news, drive daily coverage and deliver enterprise on deadline
* A sense of urgency combined with a track record of working across teams to produce creative work of the highest caliber
* Strong, distinctive ideas about these coverage areas and a demonstrated talent for line editing idea-driven journalism
* An ability to think creatively about story presentation, formats and work with different platforms on audience engagement
