Summary

Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Manager of Operations to oversee the daily operations of our electrical and gas engineering design team in the utility sector. In this role, you will manage operational processes, optimize workflow efficiency, and ensure the timely delivery of engineering designs for utility infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in resource management, team coordination, and operational improvements while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day operations of the electrical and gas design engineering teams to ensure efficient project delivery. Monitor progress on active projects, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and client specifications. Coordinate resources across multiple engineering projects, ensuring optimal allocation and utilization of personnel and materials. Implement and refine operational processes to enhance productivity, minimize downtime, and improve the overall efficiency of engineering design workflows. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational efficiency, quality, and project success. Manage a team of Distribution Designers, Jr. Designers and support staff, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure professional growth and high-performance outcomes. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support team development through ongoing training initiatives. Collaborate with Distribution Designers and Jr. Designers to ensure efficient execution of electrical and gas utility design projects. Assist with project planning and scheduling, including resource allocation, risk management, and troubleshooting operational challenges. Help manage the department’s operational budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources while maintaining cost control. Work closely with leadership to forecast resource needs, track expenses, and implement cost-effective strategies. Ensure the team has access to the necessary tools, software, and equipment to complete projects successfully. Foster a culture of safety by ensuring adherence to safety protocols and conducting safety training sessions as required. Serve as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring operational expectations are clearly communicated and met. Provide regular progress reports and updates to senior management, ensuring that stakeholders are informed of project statuses and operational performance. Address client concerns or operational issues promptly and professionally to maintain strong relationships and satisfaction. Evaluate operational performance and implement strategies for continuous improvement in the engineering design process. Lead initiatives to enhance quality control, reduce errors, and improve the accuracy and timeliness of project delivery. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in operations management, with at least 4 years in the utility sector or a related engineering field. Experience managing teams within an engineering or technical environment, preferably in electrical and/or gas design. Strong understanding of electrical and gas utility systems, including infrastructure design. Proficient in project management tools, design software (CAD, GIS, Microstation, ED Calc.), and other operational management platforms. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex operational issues and implement effective solutions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and interact with clients and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources, and project timelines effectively. Preferred Skills and Experience: Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Experience with startup or fast-growing organizations in the utility sector.
