Position Information
The Manager, Base Hospital Administration reports to the program Director, leads programs and activities associated with medical delegation and development of paramedic practice in Eastern Ontario. The Manager provides effective and efficient delivery of paramedic certification, continuing medical education, and continuous quality improvement activities. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the promotion of patient care standards, fostering a Just Culture in alignment with the strategic plan of the Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario and The Ottawa Hospital.
The Manager will oversee day-to-day departmental operations related to quality assurance of paramedic practice and quality improvement initiatives in prehospital care. In addition, the Manager will work with their teams to develop continuous medical education curriculum and content for the Base Hospital education cycle. They develop staff, lead program delivery consistent with the Base Hospital Performance Agreement, ensure the quality of care of paramedics, and engage with external stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve.
This role leads a team and is accountable for the management of workload assignment, performance evaluation, career management, employee support, and engagement.
The Manager is responsible for applying adult learning principles and accountable to develop a total quality management system consistent with a just culture philosophy. The Manager is responsible for overseeing critical incident reviews, closing the loop on staff and patient safety issues, and identify trends across all dimensions of quality of care to further the advancement of paramedicine in Ontario.
What You Will Bring
- Degree in Health Sciences or in a related field;
- Demonstrated competency as a prehospital care or critical care provider;
- Minimum of five (5) years of management and/or leadership experience in Paramedic or Emergency care setting;
- Progressive leadership experience;
- Basic knowledge of the concept and practice of evidence-based medicine;
- Good knowledge of data user interface, data analytics and report writing;
- Good knowledge of adult education learning principles and experience teaching adult learners;
- Excellent presentation skills and knowledge of multimedia presentation tools;
- Advanced knowledge of software applications such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, statistical software, Internet resources, audio-visual equipment, etc;
- Good knowledge of current trends in and legislation pertaining to the delivery of prehospital care and emergency health services;
- Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict-resolution, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
- Proven ability to develop relationships and strong collaborative networks which drive performance and produce results
- Proven ability to supervise and work effectively with members of a health care team (i.e. managers, physicians, health professionals, educators, etc);
- Good facilitation and coaching skills;
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
You will stand out with:
- Five years' experience as an advanced care paramedic, registered nurse or equivalent clinical experience;
- Master's in Education, Quality, or a related field;
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt;
- Incident analysis/root cause training.;
- Adult Learning Principles training.
