Summary

The Maintenance and Reliability Manager is focused on ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of systems and equipment and implements strategies to drive improvements and minimize downtime and costs. The Maintenance and Reliability Manager directly manages the Louisville maintenance team and indirectly oversees relevant resources in North Carolina to ensure that methodologies for managing reliability are applied consistently in both facilities. The Maintenance and Reliability Manager reports to the Louisville Plant Manager and also supports the North Carolina facility to translate best practices across the company.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules production equipment maintenance and repairs in a manner that maximizes throughput and utilization to minimize scrap.
  • Expedites machine maintenance repairs when equipment encounters unanticipated mechanical or electrical downtime.
  • Provides directions to craft personnel in areas of scheduling, staffing and work assignments.
  • Ensures Work Instructions and Procedures are updated and reviewed with all affected maintenance personnel.
  • Manages outside contractors and be on call for emergencies, when necessary.
  • Oversees the stocking of spare parts and consumables to minimize downtime while optimizing working capital.
  • Interfaces with suppliers to ensure availability, quality and reliability of equipment and components.
  • Develops and implement reliability strategies, plans, and programs to improve equipment reliability and downtime.
  • Conducts failure analyses, root cause analyses, and implement corrective action(s). Develop and design solutions to difficult problems,
  • Applies knowledge of FMEA, Reliability Centered Maintenance, and other reliability methodologies.
  • Drives maintenance best practices: Innovate, document, improve work methods, standardize, provide a safe work environment and require safe work practices, train, commission equipment, collect, measure, and analyze key performance indicators to improve processes and improve customer’s experience.
  • Develops, maintains and reports reliability & maintenance metrics and KPIs
  • Provides oversight for budget development and execution, and capital planning.
  • Communicates technical issues and project timelines with building leadership, operations and the maintenance team. Explains production impacts and works closely with operations and engineering to ensure a thorough understanding of impact on systems.


JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong attention to detail to analyze data and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization


PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience with leading a maintenance team
  • Experience in project management
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Blueprint and electrical schematic reading
  • Knowledge of CMMS programs
  • Preventive, predictive and autonomous maintenance methodologies
  • Industrial electrical and controls
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and other related systems
  • Able to learn and navigate Oracle to create or approve purchase requisitions


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
  • 5 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • 5 years’ experience in reliability engineering, maintenance, or a related field in a manufacturing environment
  • Six Sigma, Lean, TPM or other process improvement training
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles, tools, and techniques.
  • Strong budgeting and project management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a union environment a plus.


Language Skills

Ability to read, write and speak English. Must be able to read and understand materials such as SDS and other OSHA requirements. This position requires a candidate to express or exchange ideas, convey important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The candidate must pass a company pre-employment drug screen prior to commencing work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend time in the plant for sustained periods of time. There is occasional exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold or chemicals. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must have full range of body motion, vision and hearing.

The employee will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
