Opportunity Summary
The Maintenance Manager will play a key role in overseeing all maintenance and repair activities at a critical power plant, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with company policies, technical specifications, and NYPA's Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program. This leadership position will be responsible for managing the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance programs, acting as Project Manager for ongoing and future projects, and driving continuous improvement through collaboration with plant teams to enhance performance and reduce downtime. The Maintenance Manager will also oversee contractor coordination, maintain accurate documentation, and provide expert training to ensure the team is well-equipped to manage and maintain sophisticated equipment like the LM6000 turbines. Additionally, the Maintenance Manager will occasionally provide administrative and logistical support to NAES employees working at the NYPA owned “Y49” high voltage transmission line, located on Long Island, NY.
Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions:
- Oversee maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient performance of maintenance and repair work, in alignment with company policies, procedures, technical specifications, and NYPA's Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program; periodically participate in hands-on maintenance activities to support team efforts, validate procedures, and remain familiar with plant systems.
- Implement, manage, and track the plant’s preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including analyzing equipment failures and providing trend data to the Area Manager.
- Serve as Project Manager for current and future maintenance projects, coordinating activities, scheduling work, monitoring performance, and providing technical expertise to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
- Develop and manage contracts, work scopes, budgets, and schedules for both internal and external contractors, ensuring effective use of resources.
- Provide task lists and schedules for plant maintenance and contractor personnel for normal operating periods, planned outage periods, and forced outage situations.
- Create and implement detailed work-order-level work packages for day-to-day maintenance, planned outages, and corrective actions, ensuring necessary parts, tooling, and services are available on time.
- Provide training to operations technicians on job-specific skills and equipment repair procedures, including maintenance procedures for the LM6000 turbines, promoting safety and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other plant departments and operations staff to enhance the effectiveness of maintenance planning and ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Ensure the plant’s Maintenance Manual is kept up to date, along with vendor maintenance and repair manuals, and maintain accurate logs, records, and reports within Maximo CMMS to establish maintenance frequency requirements.
- Review and track Work Orders in Maximo CMMS for completeness, accuracy, and historical data to support future planning, optimizing the workflow across the plants.
- Continuously assess maintenance plans and schedules to identify improvements for quality, performance, and downtime reduction, with a focus on overall plant efficiency.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of plant policies, objectives, and both short- and long-range planning.
- Develop and implement programs and projects to help achieve established maintenance goals and targets, utilizing the latest technologies to drive efficiency.
- Oversee the warehouse and inventory management to ensure efficient storage, availability, and utilization of materials and parts, particularly for turbine and control system components.
- Assist in the recruitment, screening, and hiring of maintenance personnel, ensuring the team is well-equipped and trained to handle complex equipment like the LM6000 turbines.
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Area Manager.

- Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.
Working Relationships
The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. In support of daily plant operations, this role works closely with the Operations Manager, Compliance Manager, Plant Engineer, and Plant Administrator as needed.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The regular work schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek during standard day shift hours. This position will occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
Compensation
This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $182,000 to $192,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
