Basic Function

As a Machine Operator 1 at Johnson Screens, you will operate manufacturing machinery in alignment with our values of being a true "Johnsonite." You will contribute to achieving True North by demonstrating better & bolder thinking, doing the right thing in every situation, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality. This position requires open-mindedness, competence, and a collaborative spirit to ensure efficiency and accuracy in production processes. You will operate and maintain equipment with integrity and confidence, delivering high-quality results for the company and its customers

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor assigned machines and equipment to ensure consistent, high-quality production that meets established standards.
  • Follow work orders, production drawings, and technical specifications to set up machinery and maintain accurate operations.
  • Demonstrate better & bolder thinking by identifying opportunities to improve machine efficiency, quality output, and production processes.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure timely completion of production schedules while maintaining the quality and safety of products.
  • Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on machinery to ensure smooth operation, demonstrating a proactive and open-minded approach to equipment care.
  • Uphold our values by doing the right thing—always ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality guidelines, and company policies.
  • Work confidently and competently in a fast-paced environment, adjusting machine settings as needed to meet production demands.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to troubleshoot issues, ensuring minimal downtime and continuous improvement in processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, promoting a safe and collaborative work environment.
  • Accurately record production data, equipment usage, and any maintenance activities, ensuring integrity in all documentation.
  • Must know Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System Manual, Operating and technical procedures and work instructions as it applies to the position.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of machine operation, manufacturing processes, and equipment maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to confidently follow detailed instructions, drawings, and safety protocols to ensure quality results.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on delivering results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and openly with team members.
  • Competence in troubleshooting minor machine issues and making adjustments to improve performance.
  • Ability to maintain integrity in following safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
