Founding Applied ML Engineer

San Francisco (in office 5x week)

$200-250k base + equity

FutureTech Recruitment is partnered with a $5M seed-funded AI start-up based in San Francisco. They’re building the infrastructure to collect studio-grade audio data. They have assembled the largest channel-separated speech dataset available — 10x larger than the next biggest — covering approximately 15 languages and enriched with detailed accent and dialect metadata. This data has already been used to train several of the leading speech models in the market. They’re actively looking to bring on a Founding Applied ML Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Explore, design, and develop cutting-edge solutions that apply advanced signal processing and the latest machine learning models to speech and audio challenges.
• Develop production-ready inference algorithms, pipelines, and APIs in collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver key insights from audio data to customers.
• Work closely with operations teams to source valuable training and evaluation datasets that enhance model quality.
• Design and architect robust, reliable systems for inference and model evaluation.
• Take full ownership of the machine learning roadmap, shaping technical direction and guiding research and infrastructure priorities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning with 2+ years developing audio algorithms using DSP.
• Proven track record of owning machine learning pipelines end-to-end, from proof of concept to production deployment.
• Skilled at translating research concepts or academic papers into clean, high-quality Python code.
• Strong proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Ability to think holistically about model quality, considering both user experience and business impact.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning models in cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
