PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The machine bindery operator is responsible for performing manual and machine operator tasks in the set-up, maintenance and operation of various machinery utilized in the printing of various types of printed materials, and assembling related printed materials.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
To meet or exceed monthly budget production projections.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Machine Operator -
Regularly operates shrink wrapper, industrial drills, pallet movers and padding machines
Reviews and interprets instructions, orders materials, and completes production records such as time sheets and job jackets.
Performs cutting, folding and stitching operations.
Performs binding operations: PMC die cutting, padding, gluer folder, and shrink wrap machine
Occasionally operates forklift
Material Handler -
Responsible for the feeding/loading of pockets
Moving paper stock
Removes stacks and packs printed materials in various stages of completion on pallets as it accumulates on delivery table of machines
Examines stitched, collated, bound and unbound printed pieces to ascertain that pages are bound in numerical or folio order according to sample copy, and for such defects as imperfect bindings, ink spots, and torn , loose, and uneven pages
Jog the paper
Measure and calculate size and amounts of paper in order to accurately set up machines
Accurately use electronic counter
Records daily production
Maintenance -
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments to rollers, and other small moving parts.
Cleaning and keeping immediate work area orderly
SKILLS:
Must have strong reading comprehension skills in order to read and understand the job ticket, safety rules, machine operating and safety instructions and procedure manuals, and to apply written instructions to set-up
Thorough understanding of bindery operation
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in most units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
Ability to accurately read and interpret tape measures and rulers
