PEST CONTROLLER

Definition

Any person who uses or supervises the use of any pesticide to control the growth of unwanted grass and weeds on the lakes and government owned campgrounds and day use areas.

Supervision

Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory staff.

Duties - may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Sprays chemicals and solutions on the Lake for aquatic weeds.

Sprays terrestrial for unwanted grasses and weeds on rip rap, parking areas, campsites, under guard rails, etc.

Maintain an accurate inventory of chemicals.

Mathematically correctly compute and measure chemicals.

Operate an airboat and workboat.

Back a boat trailer or chemical spray trailer.

Read and understand chemical labels and follow label directions for proper PPE, etc.

Make adjustments to chemical sprayer to maintain proper spray pressure.

Physically able to work on land and water in hot weather.

Perform preventive maintenance on the airboat, airboat trailer, and sprayers.

Be able to operate a weed eater, mower, chainsaw, etc. When you are not able to spray because of the weather conditions, you will work with other crews, mowing grass, cutting trees and limbs, and work with boundary line crew.

Qualifications

Must be able to pass a baseline physical; able to swim 300 yards with PFD; and know areas of the lake.

Basic Knowledge Of

Mathematical skills to properly measure chemical solutions and count inventory.

Ability To

Operate sprayer, air boat, and the ability to calculate spray volumes for airboat and right of way application from spray maps provided by COE.
