Summary

Position Summary 

The Licensing Manager is responsible for ensuring that the company maintains proper licensing across all applicable jurisdictions. This role requires a deep understanding of NMLS state-level requirements and coordination with internal departments, external licensing vendors and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance. This role will involve obtaining new licenses as well as maintaining the current licenses we need. The licensing department is a new stand-alone department. The Licensing Manager will be empowered to grow and develop the department. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare the state licensing applications, amendments, and renewals in collaboration with our licensing vendor via the NMLS (Nationwide Multistate Licensing System), and other state-specific systems. 
  • Monitor and track licensing requirements for company regulation or as the business model changes. 
  • Maintain detailed and accurate licensing records and ensure timely renewals to avoid business disruption. 
  • Research and interpret state-specific regulatory requirements to support new market expansion. 
  • Liaise with state regulators, licensing vendors and respond to inquiries or deficiencies related to licensing. 
  • Support internal stakeholders (Legal, Compliance, Operations) with licensing-related issues or questions. 
  • Maintain a licensing calendar and provide regular updates and reports to management. 
  • Assist with audits and examinations related to licensing and compliance, as needed.  

 

Qualifications 

  • 4+ years of experience in a licensing, compliance, or regulatory role within the financial services or mortgage industry. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Strong knowledge of NMLS and state-level licensing requirements for mortgage lenders, servicers, and loan originators. 
  • Experience working with state regulators and licensing bodies. 
  • Proficiency in using the NMLS portal for filings and renewals. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience with compliance software or licensing management systems is a plus. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 

 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or on the job experience. 
  • Experience supporting licensing related requests during state or federal examinations. 
  • Knowledge of consumer lending, debt buying, and debt collection regulations.
