Primary Duties And Responsibilities
The Special Collections Student Assistant will work directly with the Special Collections Manager in Belmont University’s Archive and Special Collections. The Student Assistant will be trained and supervised by the Collections Manager. Some of their duties might include:
Cataloguing collections
Re-house delicate items into appropriate archival structures
Creating inventories and data input into computer programs
Digitization of collections
Help with metadata collection on each digitized piece
Research on Special Collection items
Other duties related to work in Special Collections as assigned
Required Qualifications
While the Special Collections Manager will work with the Special Collections Student Assistant to ensure that they are proficient in every skill necessary to complete their tasks, some skills are preferred:
Familiarity with using historic sources and conducting research
Previous object handling experience
Interest in material culture
Computer proficiency (google and Microsoft)
Enthusiasm for history
Ability to sit for periods and lift up to 30 lb.
Required Education Must be enrolled as a student at Belmont University.
Required Experience No experience required. But familiarity in the below subjects are preferred: Familiarity with using historic sources and conducting research Previous object handling experience Interest in material culture Computer proficiency (google and Microsoft) Enthusiasm for history
