What you'll do

Docusign is looking for a seasoned Software Engineer to join our Microservices Framework team, focused on building highly scalable, available, and reliable distributed systems. As a Lead Software Engineer specializing in infrastructure at DocuSign, you will architect, implement, and scale our service mesh infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and observable communication across our microservices ecosystem. Leveraging your deep expertise in Istio and cloud-native technologies.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering.

Responsibility

• Lead the design, deployment, and management of Istio-based service mesh architectures to facilitate secure and efficient service-to-service communication across our platforms
• Implement and manage observability tools and practices to monitor service mesh performance, ensuring high availability and reliability of services in production environments
• Work closely with development, DevOps, and SRE teams to integrate service mesh solutions into CI/CD pipelines, promoting a culture of infrastructure as code and continuous improvement
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding best practices in service mesh implementation and infrastructure scalability
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in the service mesh and cloud-native landscape, evaluating and integrating new tools and practices to enhance our infrastructure
  
  

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring

Basic

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• 12+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on infrastructure and cloud-native technologies
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP (Azure preferred)
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Helm
• Experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd, or Consul including deploying and managing them in large-scale, production environments
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Java, or Go, and scripting languages for automation tasks
• Understanding of Kubernetes, containerization, and orchestration tools
• Experience with observability tools and practices, including monitoring, logging, and tracing in distributed systems

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across diverse teams
  
  

Wage Transparency

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $177,900.00 - $287,425.00 base salary

This Role Is Also Eligible For The Following

• Bonus: Sales personnel are eligible for variable incentive pay dependent on their achievement of pre-established sales goals. Non-Sales roles are eligible for a company bonus plan, which is calculated as a percentage of eligible wages and dependent on company performance.
• Stock: This role is eligible to receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
