SHINE Technologies is seeking a
Lead Project Engineer to drive the design and delivery of custom nuclear hardware systems within the Systems and Manufacturing group. This role demands deep technical expertise, hands-on design and systems integration capability, and proactive leadership throughout the entire product lifecycle—from concept through delivery.
This engineer will act as a technical authority and integrator across mechanical, electrical, software, and nuclear subsystems, ensuring solutions are optimized for performance, manufacturability, safety, and compliance. They will own delivery of the technical scope and work as the project lead to ensure engineering execution aligns with project timelines, budgets, and customer expectations.
The base salary range for this position is $120,000-$183,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end technical execution of complex, multidisciplinary custom systems, ensuring alignment with program goals, customer needs, and regulatory standards.
- Develop technical work breakdown structures, system architectures, interface definitions, and validation plans.
- Drive detailed design activities, peer reviews, and integration strategies across engineering disciplines, and ensure effective collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain.
- Act as the technical point of contact with internal and external stakeholders, translating customer requirements into actionable design inputs and ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks, maintaining awareness of critical path items and making strategic adjustments in partnership with project management.
- Support or lead scheduling, resource planning, and progress tracking; contribute engineering input to project reviews and status reporting.
- Mentor junior engineers and act as a force multiplier for the team through leadership, coaching, and fostering a culture of accountability and technical excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field preferred; advanced degree highly preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in a high-complexity, regulated, multidisciplinary product development environment preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of full system designs from concept through delivery preferred.
- Strong systems thinking with practical design, analysis, and integration experience.
- Familiarity with basic project management principles (scheduling, resource estimation, risk mitigation).
- Proficiency in CAD tools, FEA, and design documentation best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and interface effectively with customers and stakeholders.
- Experience in a highly regulated or safety-critical industry (nuclear, aerospace, defense, medical) is a strong plus.
- Experience working in a product development organization delivering hardware-based systems to external customers preferred.

- Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 40 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
