Summary

Lead Project Engineer Electrical Instrumentation & Automation (EIA)

About the job

We are ChainCraft, a pioneering scale-up in the circular chemical industry with a bold mission: to make sustainable chemistry the new standard by converting organic waste into valuable, bio-based alternatives to fossil and palm oils. Our passionate and growing team forms the backbone of this mission, combining innovation, impact, and expertise to create real change.

And this is where you come in.

We’re looking for a Lead Project Engineer in Electrical Instrumentation & Automation (EIA) to join our team in Amsterdam.

The role

As Lead Project Engineer EIA, you will play a pivotal role in designing and executing the E&I and automation aspects of our new flagship production facility (FS-1) in Ter Apelkanaal and supporting our existing demonstration plant in Amsterdam. From design and procurement to commissioning and ramp-up, you’ll ensure that all EIA-related project phases are delivered safely on time and within budget, together with our multidisciplinary engineering team and external contractors.

You will be the primary technical contact for subcontractors on EIA matters, manage interfaces across disciplines, and support the ChainCraft Engineering Manager with escalations and performance tracking. This is a unique opportunity to help build our most ambitious plant yet and be a key contributor to the scale-up of circular chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the EIA scope across the full project lifecycle: (detailed) design, construction, commissioning, handover.
  • Manage internal and external EIA interfaces across engineering disciplines and contractors.
  • Oversee EIA systems and documentation for our demo plant in Amsterdam.
  • Act as the first technical point of contact for subcontractors and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Identify and escalate risks and contractual issues to the Engineering Manager.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to developing internal standards and systems.
  • Support EIA-related decisions in future projects (e.g., FS-2) and process development initiatives.

Desired qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in E&I engineering, including 5+ years in a project leadership role (FEED and execution).
  • HBO degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or related field.
  • Expertise in electrical systems, instrumentation, and control system design; commissioning experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with contract forms (FIDIC, UAV) and project delivery methods.
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Practical mindset and structured, solution-oriented approach to project execution.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholders.

Why ChainCraft?

As our new colleague, you’ll be part of something extraordinary.

You’ll join a team that’s not just growing fast, but growing together—with curiosity, purpose, and a shared drive for impact. We’re building a culture where everyone contributes, learns, and takes ownership.

You’ll work on exciting challenges in a company that’s shaping the future of sustainable chemistry, and your work will make a real-world difference.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package
  • Participation in our SAR program + 29 vacation days + holiday allowance
  • A development budget of €750 per year to support personal and professional growth
  • Access to our company pension plan
  • Eco-friendly travel allowance, including a mileage reimbursement for employees who commute by bike or on foot
  • The opportunity to grow with the company as we scale across locations
  • The flexibility of working from home up to two days per week

As part of our hiring process, an assessment may be included to ensure the best match for both sides.

If you’re excited about this role but not sure whether your background ticks every box, don’t hesitate to reach out. We value motivation, curiosity, and a willingness to grow just as much as direct experience.
