Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize our database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with database migrations, cloud database management on AWS, and working with various relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. This is a leadership role where you will be responsible for the strategic direction, maintenance, and optimization of all database systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and management of scalable and high-performance database solutions across various environments.
• Manage, monitor, and optimize databases hosted on AWS (RDS, Aurora, EC2).
• Oversee and execute database migrations, both on-premise and to the cloud, ensuring minimal downtime and smooth transition.
• Implement best practices for database backup, disaster recovery, and security across MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and other database systems.
• Lead database performance tuning and query optimization to enhance application performance.
• Conduct capacity planning and ensure that database environments are adequately scaled to meet application demands.
• Implement automation tools for database monitoring, reporting, and health checks.
• Develop and enforce database policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in database management and cloud platforms.
  
  

Required Skills And Qualifications

• Experience with Database Migrations: Expertise in executing large-scale database migrations, including cloud migrations (on AWS), cross-platform migrations, and data replication.
• Strong AWS Knowledge: Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, particularly AWS RDS, Aurora, EC2, Lambda, and IAM roles for managing cloud-based database solutions.
• Proficiency in Database Technologies: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL. Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or DynamoDB is a plus.
• Database Design & Optimization: Expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, and query optimization for large-scale systems.
• Backup, Recovery, and High Availability: Deep understanding of backup strategies, disaster recovery, and implementing high availability solutions in a database context (e.g., replication, clustering, sharding).
• Security Best Practices: Strong knowledge of database security, including encryption, auditing, and access control mechanisms.
• Automation and Scripting: Experience in automating database maintenance tasks using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or custom scripts (Bash, Python, etc.).
• Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to lead a team of DBAs, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior team members.
• Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and provide quick, efficient resolutions.
• Certifications: AWS Certified Database – Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent certifications are preferred.
  
  

Additional Qualifications (Preferred)

• Experience with Big Data Technologies: Knowledge of big data tools and platforms like Redshift, Athena, and data lake architectures.
• CI/CD Pipelines: Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines for database changes.
• Database Monitoring Tools: Experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or other monitoring platforms.
• DevOps Experience: Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and using infrastructure-as-code principles for database provisioning.
