Job Summary

The Lead Counselor assists with coordination of all treatment aspects of a Client's care. This role serves as a professional teammate and/or leader of an interdisciplinary team and is responsible directly to the Clinical Supervisor for the coordination and continuity of care from admission through discharge and follow-up of the Clients. The Lead Counselor will also assist the Clinical Supervisor in problem solving, conflict resolution and readiness for state CARF audits. Essential functions, including how an individual is to perform them and the frequency with which the tasks are performed; the tasks must be part of the job function and truly necessary or required to perform the job.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ensures completion of Client databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation as required by state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintains a caseload and covers other cases as needed to support the clinical team
  • Shall support Clients orientation on program objectives, requirements, rules, and regulations including consequences to behaviors, hours of service, Client rights, and additional information to help Clients adjust to the program. Assures that Clients are assessed and placed in appropriate phases of treatment according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Keeps all Client files updated and organized
  • Counsel Clients and address specific needs of the people served.
  • Arranges referrals and community information to Clients as appropriate.
  • Develop knowledge regarding state, federal and agency regulations regarding confidentiality, MAT treatment, and substance abuse service counseling certification.
  • Assures all documentation is collected from Clients as required by state and federal standards.
  • Submit required statistical and other data as required.
  • Shall provide and obtain the following therapeutic services as determined by the Treatment Team and specified in the Client's Individual Treatment Plan: individual counseling, family counseling, group counseling, community activities, Facility visits, vocational training, and follow-up care.
  • Report all relevant developments and information affecting the Clients and facility operation.
  • Shall provide teammate coverage as scheduled.
  • Complete administrative tasks.
  • May conduct duties of the Clinical Supervisor in interim capacity when Clinical Supervisor is off-site.
  • Enliven compassionate care and empower Clients to realize their best level of functioning in the community.
  • Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position provides clinical support to members of the team.
  • Supervision is provided through (check all that apply): IxI direct observation, IxI team meetings, IxI training opportunities (including in-service and E-learning), IxI administrative supervision, IxI group supervision, IxI clinical supervision (for appropriate levels when appropriate)

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Independent licensure for counseling or social work (LPC, LMFT, LCSW), as may be required by the state in which the facility operates.

Experience

  • Three (3) years' experience in substance abuse and/or related field required.
  • Five (S) years of experience in counseling or case management preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Complies with organizational policies, procedures, performance improvement initiatives and maintains organizational and industry policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all applicable HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and 42 CFR Part 2 guidelines to ensure confidentiality of Client information.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and regulations in the healthcare industry.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Working knowledge of EMR/EHR systems.
  • Ability to utilize a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect/ enter/ process/ file Client records and documentation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
