Avista, and more specifically our Network Engineering department, are looking for the right candidate to carry out full Layer 1 inside plant engineering related to network infrastructure. To perform engineering work in the above areas which requires broad technical and company knowledge as well as originality and judgment in the technical analysis and independent evaluation, selection and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

If you are a degreed engineer looking to apply your education and expertise to our Network Engineering team, this position may be for you. This position regularly has the opportunity to visit field communication sites at substations, on mountain tops, at generation plants and other locations across our service territory where Layer 1 inside plant engineering site surveys and design work are required. This individual will be responsible for the design of all Layer 1 inside plant communication networks. The successful candidate will be a person who thrives in a fast-paced environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and out-of-the-box thinking, enabling our business partners to deliver gas and electric service through our digital transformation.
Responsibilities
* Research and engineer technical solutions and project estimates for Layer 1 inside plant network and communication solutions.
* Supports wiring, drawing and telecommunication hardware standards.
* Engages with engineering teams throughout Avista as well as Avista's Telecommunication shop, electrical shop, contracted crews to carry out implementation and installation and will need to work with internal and external construction and engineering resources.
* Analyzes current configurations and plans for future growth and new technology.
* Recommends technology cycles and executes end-of-life technology refresh programs.
* Design and construction support for projects as well as develop internal standards for the following fields which support the Avista communications infrastructure.

Requirements
Network Engineer I:
* BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering or related field
* Basic level certification for domain assignment
* 2 years of relevant experience
* Technology management skills with success in a balanced value driven customer relationship and productivity model
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
* Demonstrated technology leadership abilities and proven analytical problem-solving skills
* Strong process orientation and a clear understanding of the value delivered by developing and validating engineering models with customer requirements
Network Engineer II includes the above requirements plus:
* 6 years of relevant experience in an enterprise-size company (500 or more employees)
* Advanced level certification for domain assignment
* Knowledge of operations and delivery concepts, principles, standards, tools, techniques, system testing best practices and methodologies
* Ability to communicate effectively with teammates/in a team environment and matrix organization in addition to enthusiasm about providing guidance and passing on knowledge, experience, and lessons learned to team members
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
