The team
ASIC's Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) is responsible for the conduct of ASIC's initial inquiries, compliance and enforcement work across all sectors excluding markets. The ECG comprises Investigation and Enforcement Action, Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance, Enforcement Services and Enforcement Policy and Practice.
The role
Responsibilities
As a
Lawyer in one of ASIC's ECG portfolio specialist teams, you will provide advice, guidance and assistance in the specialist area of Investment Management or Financial Advisors. You will be responsible for:
- Supporting the Senior Specialist and Senior Executive Leader to provide technical and strategic leadership and advice to drive enforcement outcomes;
- Assisting in the project management and coordination of multiple initiatives related to enforcement activities within ASIC, including providing technical expertise, input and guidance;
- Undertaking technical analysis of relevant legal and regulatory material to shape and inform the development of enforcement strategies;
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including liaison with other Government agencies such as AFCA, APRA and the CSLR;
- Contributing to project work of a strategic nature, including providing advice on law reform and policy and legislative developments from an enforcement perspective;
- Contributing to the presentation of written and oral briefings to ASIC leadership and other team members.
About You
You will have the technical expertise and specialist skills to assist ASIC in achieving impactful enforcement outcomes. Your application will be reviewed based on ability to demonstrate, or potential to develop, the capabilities required.
You Will Also Demonstrate
- Relevant tertiary legal qualification.
- Experience undertaking legal research and policy work.
- An understanding of the law, practice, policy relating to the Corporations Act, the National Consumer Credit regime, the ASIC Act and other relevant financial services legislation.
- Excellent writing and drafting skills, and the ability to communicate verbally in a clear, concise and persuasive manner.
- Strong organisational skills, drive, initiative and ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects.
- Experience communicating complex information to different target audiences through strong business writing and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in conducting legal research, providing legal advice and applying technical knowledge in a regulatory context.
