Laborer Special: During Repair Season
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As a General Laborer at SCGC, this role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth operation of the milling process. Primary responsibilities include handling materials, operating equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting various stages of sugar production. This position demands physical strength, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. The work directly impacts the quality and efficiency of sugar production, making it an essential part of the team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate basic machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work areas, including sweeping, mopping, and disposing of waste materials.
- Assist in monitoring and ensuring product quality, reporting any discrepancies or issues to supervisors.
- Assist in various stages of the sugar milling process, following standard operating procedures.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Complete required reports accurately and on time.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior workers.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Organizational and time management skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular attendance is required during your scheduled shift.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on the weather.
- Must be able to work in all positions (overhead, kneeling, reaching, crawling & working in small workspaces).
- Must be able to occasionally lift to 25 pounds.
Evaporator Operator Assistant: During Harvesting Season
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Evaporator Operator Assistant supports the Evaporator Operator during the Crop Season. At the conclusion of the Crop Season, at Management’s discretion, the individual selected can expect to return to their prior Repair Season position (if any) or be assigned to a Repair Season position as needed.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleaning the evaporators, pumping cleaning materials and checking the brix of the syrup.
- Chemicals used include: caustic soda, muriatic acid and enzymes.
- Exhausting the steam into the evaporator for heating the juice regulating the temperature and pressure gauges.
- Checking the syrup samples frequently drawn from the last evaporator.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma, GED (or equivalent experience), basic level operator and mechanical skills with at least one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of processing equipment.
- Must have basic reading, writing, mathematical and computer software skills.
- Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular attendance is required during your scheduled shift.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather.
- Must be able to work in all positions (bending, climbing steps, kneeling, reaching, and crawling) and be able to continuously lift from 25 to 50 pounds.
