ABOUT THE ROLE
The Laboratory Supervisor's objective is to ensure that all products shipped are tested and meet the applicable standards, agency requirements, and plant quality targets. The position is responsible for the collection, interpretation and presentation of quality data for all materials. The position is also responsible for the scheduling, assigning, supervision and the development of the Quality Technicians. In addition, the position is responsible for all day-to-day laboratory operations and the coordination of those activities with the rest of the site.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
* Maintain all analytic equipment in accordance with safety and quality control procedures.
* Calibrate and maintain calibration records of all laboratory equipment including maintaining certification of XRF and Quality Technicians.
* Troubleshoot laboratory equipment problems, including XRF, and have a complete working knowledge and understanding of all laboratory equipment. Perform adjustments and repairs to equipment as required. Prepare work orders as required.
* Supervise laboratory staff in both Quality Control and Quality Assurance labs, and ensure testing procedures are followed and ensure adequate training for Quality Technicians. Execute development plan/maintain records.
* Perform routine physical testing of cement on an as-needed basis / when additional coverage is required.
* Analyze output from laboratory equipment and recommend changes to process based on lab results
* Prepare standards for analytical equipment and develop new or alternate analytical techniques
* Ensure data is entered into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
* Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree
Additional Education Preferred: Master's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Chemistry or related field preferred
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years
Travel Requirements: Less than 5%
Additional Requirements:
* Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet functions, database usage strongly preferred
* Working knowledge of XRF and XRD preferred
* Knowledge of cement manufacturing preferred
* Knowledge of cement chemistry and clinker microscopy preferred
* Knowledge of physical test procedures preferred
* Ability to interpret and write technical reports
* Experience in a laboratory or technical working environment preferred
* Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
