Summary

Korn Ferry is excited to assist one of our clients in filling a Labor Relations Consultant opening.


KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ROLE:

  • 70-80% travel required within the U.S. (Remote when not traveling.)
  • Requires prior experience leading the response to union organizing campaigns.
  • Not a standard salaried role but rather variable compensation based on billable hours and commissions. Earning potential of $200,000-$350,000+.


OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of the Labor Consultant position is to provide high-quality, customized professional consulting services to clients. The consulting services include, but are not limited to, labor and employee relations, card mitigation, NLRB election campaigns, labor training, coaching, communications, and delivery of customized products and services.


Most consulting work is done at client sites and extensive travel is required. The Consultant is expected to become knowledgeable about all products and services and to offer ideas and solutions to clients as part of a total solution utilizing all areas of expertise in labor, leadership development (OD), communications, and digital solutions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following descriptions of services provided are examples of the work the consultant may be asked to perform, but additional types of consulting services may also be required.

  • Develop strategies to assist clients in meeting their goals and assist with the implementation of strategies as appropriate.
  • Lead labor campaigns and other client projects.
  • Display a mindset that exudes confidence, competence and delivers an overall impression required to get the job done.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate, develop relationships, inspire teams, and gain trust.
  • Manage budgets, establish deadlines, assign responsibilities, monitor, and summarize progress of the overall project.
  • Develop and deliver customized training materials for large and small groups, using approved templates and formats.
  • Conduct organizational assessments, followed by analysis and integration of interviews and other organizational data to develop reports and recommendations for clients.
  • Apply critical thinking to qualitative and quantitative data for use in developing and implementing recommendations specific to client needs.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to, including but not limited to, corporate board members, executives, and other members of leadership.
  • Facilitate meetings with small and large groups, including employees at all levels within an organization.
  • Assume full responsibility for all client communications, including briefings and reports.
  • Train other consultants in areas of expertise.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No direct reports. However, the Labor Consultant may be required to supervise and coordinate the work of other consultants working on a project or as part of an internal team. This will include, but is not limited to, assignment of work, monitoring work performance, coaching and mentoring and providing development needed for Adjunct or Mid-level consultants, etc.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience managing projects / teams.
  • Significant experience related to employee and labor relations and running NLRB election campaigns.
  • Experience developing election strategy, conducting related management interviews, and training.
  • Strong executive presence and business acumen.
  • Ability to approach client needs from a strategic perspective, based on the consultant’s experience and expertise, and continuously focused on the client’s desired outcomes.
  • Willingness to challenge and be challenged when discussing client strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and convey complex information to individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to write complex, professional project reports for clients including writing skills which present well-thought and well-organized information, grammatically and structurally correct, and in approved report template.
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data needed to meet client’s desired outcomes.
  • Ability to develop credibility with clients needed to implement recommended organizational change.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Excel
  • Ability to use additional computer products:
  • Adobe Acrobat (Standard, Professional, Reader)
  • Video conferencing (Teams, Zoom, other)
  • ShareFile (File sharing software)
  • Note: The ability to learn additional software and programs is required. Over time the products listed above may be replaced or supplemented with other products.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain complete confidentiality on all client matters at all times.
  • Must be able to work independently at client sites, using independent judgment, and be able to work cooperatively in a team environment, often in a virtual/remote format.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of agility and adaptability to changing conditions and client demands.
  • Organizationally savvy to maneuver successfully through complex dynamics across diverse channels of business.
  • Ability to relate effectively to people at all levels within an organization.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, including several client projects simultaneously.
  • Experience and comfort working in a virtual or remote environment, including limited interaction with co-workers beyond technological connection.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work environment is representative of what an employee will encounter in this role. This is a virtual position, meaning at times the consultant will work from home and is expected to maintain a work environment free from distractions. The consultant must also be able to travel to and from client sites as needed. However, our first priority is always the safety of our consultants and, post-pandemic, we continue to adhere to all relevant CDC guidelines and recommendations when making decisions about travel.


COMPENSATION: Variable compensation model based on billable hours and commissions. Annual earning potential in the $200,000-$350,000+ range.
