ROLE SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Technician will play an essential role within the Science Department, working closely with the Senior Science Technician / Laboratories Manager. The position involves coordinating and maintaining the use of practical resources while ensuring that educational standards and safety protocols are met. This role is pivotal in creating a dynamic learning environment that enhances students' scientific understanding through hands-on experience, thereby supporting both individual and class experiments in a laboratory setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare laboratory materials and equipment for a variety of Science lessons, ensuring the correct handling and provisioning of chemical substances.
- Provide expert guidance and support to students and educators regarding practical components, prioritizing understanding and safety with resource utilization.
- Offer technical advice on laboratory equipment and practical work, aiding in troubleshooting and efficient problem resolution.
- Engage creatively in the design, construction, and modification of laboratory apparatus, thereby enhancing the learning experiences of students.
- Contribute to the development of resources, producing engaging equipment that supports practical classwork and fosters inspiration in scientific inquiry.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with chemicals and laboratory practices, advising accordingly.
- Handle procurement for immediate classroom needs, effectively managing petty cash as required.
- Ensure proper cleanup of equipment post-usage, maintaining an organized and safe laboratory setting.
- Oversee the cleanliness and operational integrity of laboratory equipment, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Regularly inspect apparatus functionality and perform necessary maintenance to sustain all laboratory tools in peak condition.
- Implement routine safety checks within laboratory environments to ensure the well-being of students and staff alike.
- Maintain precise documentation of Safety Data Sheets for all utilized chemicals, alongside comprehensive records of equipment and supply inventories.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A High School Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- A diploma in a Science subject or higher is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a Secondary School laboratory technician role.
- Experience within an international school setting is considered advantageous
- Strong understanding and knowledge in a specific Science subject area.
- Proficient mathematical skills to assist with scientific calculations.
- Excellent organisation and time management abilities.
- Capacity to meet project deadlines with efficiency.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaborative environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the capability to resolve issues swiftly in relation to experiments or equipment.
- A genuine enthusiasm to promote and support the fields of Science and Education along with a commitment to student welfare.
