Reports to: Senior Chemist or Lab Supervisor
The Lab Chemist I performs routine chemical and physical analyses of samples using standard methods and instruments. This entry-level role ensures quality and safety standards are met while working under the direct supervision of more experienced laboratory personnel.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct basic sample analyses per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Calibrate and maintain lab equipment with supervision.
Document analytical processes accurately (e.g., calibration logs).
Comply with QA/QC protocols and safety regulations (OSHA, internal policies).
Manage supplies and waste in designated work areas.
Maintain clean and safe working conditions.
Review and score satisfactorily on annual SOP quizzes.
Participate in continuous training and follow all company SOPs.
Required QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience: 0–3 years in a laboratory setting
Certifications:
DOT training
24- or 40-hour OSHA training with annual updates
Skills & CompetenciesSolid understanding of chemistry and lab math
Good organizational and teamwork skills
Basic computer proficiency
Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
Work Environment & Physical RequirementsPhysical Level: Medium Work
Lifting: Up to 50 lbs occasionally; frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs
Motion: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending
Manual Dexterity: Constant simple grasping and fine manipulation
Vision & Hearing: Must have near/far vision, color vision, depth perception, and hearing clarity (corrective aids permitted)
Other RequirementsMust be capable of:
Performing physical fitness tasks (e.g., pushups, squats)
Climbing vertical ladders
Wearing a respirator when required
Travel: Less than 10%
Driving: Occasional use of vehicles with automatic transmission
