About The Department
Provide fiscal services to the university, promoting financial best practices, forming strategic partnerships, establishing efficient systems, and pursuing continuous improvement. Create and maintain a sustainable financial framework and strong internal controls to promote sound fiscal management, careful stewardship of university resources, and accountability. Foster innovation to support Mason's overall mission by employing new methods to deliver financial services and collaborating on process improvements and new initiatives. Provide accurate and timely financial data to ensure comprehensive reporting, compliance, and analysis to enable strategic decision-making.
About The Position
The Knowledge Manager is responsible for designing, updating, and maintaining knowledge management assets, including documents, videos, websites, and other materials. Serves as the Fiscal Services website manager, providing technical support to end users and leading awareness campaigns for knowledge management initiatives. Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure internal procedures and specialized content remain accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with organizational processes. May manage 1-2 wage employees, overseeing daily operations, website maintenance, and customer service support.
Responsibilities
- Ownership of knowledge management assets (documents, videos, website, and other material) in coordination with supervisor;
- Contributes to the overall knowledge-based best practices for the university;
- Serves as Fiscal Services Web Master;
- Develops new content and functionality using WordPress or other content management technology;
- Maintains Fiscal Services website by revising content and posting new and updated documents and removing out of date content as requested;
- Partners with Fiscal units to develop and implement manuals and policies, ensuring alignment from project initiation to completion;
- Manages 1-2 wage employees to assist with day-to-day operations and additional training and communication needs;
- Assists other fiscal services departments during periods of increased workload or staff shortages as directed by supervisor, Vice President of Finance, and Associate Vice President and Controller; and
- Completes special projects and performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Considerable experience with knowledge management, content management, or a related field (generally three or more years);
- Experience maintaining and updating digital knowledge assets, including websites, documents, and multimedia content;
- Experience providing technical support to end users, managing website maintenance, and overseeing daily operations related to knowledge management;
- Basic website management skills (e.g., HTML, CMS or platforms like WordPress or SharePoint);
- Intermediate skill with document and multimedia content creation tools;
- Ability to maintain and update websites, digital content, or similar platforms;
- Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and compliance with organizational policies; and
- Ability to effectively successfully communicate fiscal procedures to individuals with a variety of financial understanding and technical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field;
- Analytical and technical experience in a large, decentralized environment;
- Experience in fiscal operations at a public college or university or similar fiscal environment;
- Teaching or similar experience in an adult learning environment;
- Website management experience;
- Experience using Ellucian Banner Finance and eVA;
- Knowledge of video editing or multimedia content creation tools;
- Familiarity with database management and knowledge-sharing platforms;
- Skill in advanced website management, including SEO optimization and UI/UX best practices;
- Demonstrated ability to drive knowledge-sharing initiatives within an organization;
- Ability to assess knowledge management effectiveness and propose improvements; and
- Ability to conduct awareness campaigns related to knowledge management.
