On behalf of our client, ESOC, we are looking for a Junior Database Administrator to join our team in the FOS Virtualisation service at our Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany.
Responsibilities:
· Set up, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL clusters to ensure optimal performance and reliability
· Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized applications within Kubernetes environments
· Monitor system performance continuously and produce reports to support operational improvements
· Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical operations.
· Optionally support database infrastructure to ensure data accessibility and integrity
· Contribute to software development activities, particularly in Java and scripting environments
· Provide support for Linux-based systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting
Profile:
· Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL and Kubernetes in operational environments
· Strong background in infrastructure or platform engineering, with a focus on system reliability and observability
· Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure, security, and networking
· Knowledge of storage in Cloud (vblock, S3, Object Storage)
· Familiarity with Linux system administration and troubleshooting
· Experience in monitoring and performance tuning of distributed systems
· Working knowledge of scripting or development in scripting languages such as Java, Python, or similar languages
· Knowledge of Ansible and Terraform
· Ability to support database environments and ensure data consistency (optional but beneficial)
· Academic qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field are advantageous but not mandatory
· Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to dive into troubleshooting
· Team player mindset, with an efficient thinking focus in a procedure-driven working environment
· Ability to handle stressful situations and work autonomously
· Fluency in English (Written and spoken)
