Five Keys Overview

Five Keys was founded in 2003 by the San Francisco Sheriffs Department as the first accredited charter high school in the nation to provide diploma programs for adults in county jails. Today we are a much different social justice non-profit agency that has expanded its charter schools into 9 counties, in 24 jail locations and over 80 community learning centers. In addition to our schools, now we also run multiple homeless shelters, employment programs, programs for the unsheltered, reentry programs and housing for women suffering from immense injustice.

Our housing sites are unique in their approach to our clients, emphasizing low barriers to entry and a flexible approach to rules and requirements. Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The Janitor position reports to Site Directors and is accountable for maintenance throughout the facilities and completing janitorial routine tasks that contribute to the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and the facility. We are looking for someone who insists on maintaining a positive attitude and enjoys supporting a diverse group of people.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Inspecting the facilities to maintain security and program compliance
  • Maintaining the Navigation Center Janitor log according to procedure
  • Performing all duties within the parameters of Navigation Center Policy and Procedures as well as the legislated Standards of Care policies
  • Assisting Navigation Center volunteers and visitors by providing a warm welcoming atmosphere
  • Completing and submitting maintenance requests to the Assistant Director of Operations regarding failed equipment and needed repairs
  • Responding to all participant requests and questions in a professional and courteous manner
  • Immediately reporting any problems to the Navigation Center Shelter Supervisor and Assistant Director of Operations in accordance with Navigation Center policies and procedures
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Operations and Shelter Supervisor overseeing Center operations ensuring a safe environment for staff and participants
  • The Janitor will ensure that security policies and measures are consistently implemented and adhered to in collaboration with security staff when they are on-duty
  • Attending and participating in the daily Shift Change Meetings communicating all issues and concerns to staff coming on the next shift
  • Maintaining a clean and healthy environment for participants including the stripping of beds, clearing of lockers, and sleeping areas as assigned
  • At the end of every shift, ensuring paperwork is complete and work space is cleaned and organized
  • Refer participants to Navigation Center Care Management staff and communicate any concerns or issues related to that participant
  • Commit to attending all staff meetings and trainings even when outside of regular work hours
  • On a daily basis clean all interior and exterior spaces at the Center to include: office spaces, reception area, bathrooms, showers, participant laundry area, sleeping units, dining room/community hall, participant property rooms and the exterior of the buildings
  • Clean the bathroom and showers every hour during the day and swing shifts
  • Spray mattresses and sleeping areas with disinfectant spray when beds are stripped on laundry day
  • Maintain cleaning supplies and inform the Assistant Director of Operations when it is time to order new cleaning supplies
  • Other duties as assigned

Education And Work Experience

  • The successful candidate must hold either a High School Diploma or a GED equivalent or working toward a diploma
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Be committed to the mission of The Navigation Centers and Five Keys Schools and Programs and possess a working knowledge of and sensitivity to individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health issues such as: PTSD, psychosis, borderline behaviors, bi-polar, etc.
  • Will maintain professional, respectful, honest interactions with participants, staff and outside agencies
  • Must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and be sensitive to a diverse participant and staff population

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • To promote the health and safety of its employees, those we serve and our local communities, Five Keys requires that all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and/or adhere to all weekly testing and safety measures. Employees may also request and receive approval for an exemption from this policy. Exemptions are granted to accommodate a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting
  • Frequent talking and hearing conversations
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms
  • Ability to follow oral directions in emergency situations
  • Lifting items that weigh up to 40 lbs.; reaching, bending, carrying and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activities
  • Must be able to move from place to place
  • Will honor and abide by Five Keys and regulations, including confidentiality

Additional Requirements

This position is contingent upon:

  • Submitting proof of clear TB results. Results dated within 60 days prior to hire date are acceptable
