Summary

Job Description Summary

Responsible for performing all database administrator duties at the court, which include general database administration and design. Responsibilities include backup and recovery, data security, data access, performance tuning, technical consulting, development of standards, production support, capacity planning and evaluation of database technology. The Database Administrator is also responsible for organizing data, providing access to data, designing and reviewing applications that use the data, creating and implementing data-naming standards, and providing training in data modeling and design.

Job Description

Salary Range: $88,881 to $102,000

Essential Functions

  • Defines a strategy for backup and recovery of each database and ensures availability of databases.
  • Monitors and optimizes database performance, ensures data integrity, and maintains database security.
  • Provides senior-level technical database leadership when working with teams.
  • Creates and implements data element standards and provides for the physical dissemination of the data. Performs data administration, including, but not limited to, software installation, optimization, security, patch installation, upgrades, capacity planning, and connectivity.
  • Assists with the installation of DBMS packages and upgrades and with the training of users in the use of databases.
  • Designs, creates and maintains database objects.
  • Assists in the configuration and support of cloud-based and in-house environments such as SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Agave, and Team Foundation Server.
  • Analyzes new and existing information systems and provides technology evaluations and recommendations.
  • Writes and maintains database documentation.
  • Participates in technical project teams serving as a lead in using data modeling concepts for application designs.
  • Coordinates with other information technology groups to facilitate database development projects, software upgrades and new product implementations.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science, management information systems, or a related field, and six (6) years of experience in database administration; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a certified Microsoft SQL Database Administrator.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must have a valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Typically performs duties in a court environment and may lift materials and/or equipment 20 lbs or less. Occasional after hours and weekend hours are required to support system implementations and deployments.

Additional Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provides status reports as requested.
  • Provides training and mentoring to other database administrators.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Must Have

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within database administration.
  • Expert knowledge of desktop computers and software associated with word processing, database management, and email communications.
  • Expert knowledge of data modeling techniques and workflow.
  • Expert knowledge of protocols and methods for monitoring DBMS security and performance.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics administration.
  • Expert knowledge of data storage, archiving, backup and recovery.
  • Leadership skills to work with users and other information technology team members.
  • Expert skills in analyzing, designing, testing, debugging, implementing, and supporting software systems.
  • Skills in project management including planning, coordinating, and tracking deadlines and results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of superior court employees' judges, judicial staff, court leadership and administration, vendors, and the general public.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a classified position that reports to the Manager, Application Development. The incumbent performs duties under general supervision and has no supervisory responsibilities.
