About these Opportunities: 7-Eleven Inc. has several opportunities for Summer Internships. Each internship opportunity will occur during the summer months, (10-12 weeks), focused on a specific functional area, and will provide the candidate with a depth experience within the area, culminating in a project presentation to functional leaders. Each intern will work closely with a coach who will meet regularly to discuss project progress, provide direction and ongoing feedback. In addition, each intern will attend a lunch series which will provide a cross-functional view into the organization and give the interns exposure to senior leadership. The interns will also have the experience of touring a store and learning about our distribution systems.
Job Summary
7-Eleven is seeking an IT Project Management Analyst Intern to join the IT Project Management Office (PMO) within the IT Strategy and Governance Department at 7-Eleven Headquarters in Irving, Texas. This role will be responsible for supporting one or more IT PMO Project Managers to ensure the successful execution of 7-Eleven IT strategic programs and projects. This role must be able to utilize project team feedback to extract work breakdown structures, determine appropriate task durations, dependencies, and construct detailed timelines and use to manage and drive initiatives. The individual must be able to engage executive stakeholders and other key organizational leaders in addition to project team members. The ideal candidate will be able to work with project participants and stakeholders to flush out and manage risks, action items, issues, and decisions in order to mitigate negative impacts to project scope, timeline, and cost. This role will report directly to the Director of Process Automation and IT PMO.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Proactively exercises initiative in identifying, tracking, and removing impediments for assigned projects and/or programs. Approaches risk identification and mitigation, accordingly, including establishing contingency plans and initiating corrective action.
- Tracks and manages project roadmaps/schedules for upstream and downstream dependencies.
- Understands how individual project workstreams affect the project/program and exercises judgment in escalating issues and risks using the appropriate paths and methods.
- Arbitrates and resolves conflicts within the program when necessary. Understands appropriate paths and methods for escalation.
- Utilizes negotiation skills to influence and creatively achieve successful outcomes around scope, schedule, budget, issues/risks, and resources for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manages relationships between IT and the business for assigned projects and/or programs.
- Coordinates with business, other IT business units as well as vendors within the assigned program to ensure proper project documentation and resource utilization across program.
- Maintains strong customer focus while coordinating and collaborating with stakeholders, vendors, and IT resources by using effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Fosters a positive team environment and provides direction in ambiguous situations.
Specific Knowledge And Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required, working on a post graduate degree
- PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is preferred
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in project management or relevant coursework
- Strong practical experience in project management
- Strong knowledge and handling of project and program management methodology and techniques
- Good ability to ascertain the wider objectives of projects and programs
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work positively with the wide range of individuals involved in program management
- Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
- The ability to find innovative ways to resolve problems
