Job Description: IT Infrastructure Architect
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid: Office on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; Work from home on Tuesday and Friday)

Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Apex Systems is seeking an IT Infrastructure Architect to join our clients Global Information Systems group in Pittsburgh, PA. This role involves leading and supporting architecture activities to develop and manage technical and infrastructure solutions. The Infrastructure Architect will create artifacts to guide the evolution of the technical infrastructure across the enterprise, ensuring solutions are agile and capable of meeting current and future business capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads and Collaborates to Deliver Business Outcomes and Value
- Work closely with business representatives, process owners, and IT subject matter experts to design efficient and value-adding business solutions.
- Design for scalability and flexibility.
- Oversee and consult on technology changes, updates, and implementations.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures.
- Derives Future-State Technology Architecture
- Lead the analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise and existing technology architecture.
- Maintain awareness of business and IT strategies to ensure technical architecture is poised for future needs and growth.
- Periodically review infrastructure-related technology roadmaps and evaluate them against internal and external environments to maintain a clear technology direction.
- Analyzes and Evaluates Technology, Both New and Existing
- Guide technology investment decisions based on analysis and evaluation to drive value-adding business outcomes while ensuring nonfunctional requirements are met.
- Periodically analyze the technical environment to detect deficiencies, opportunities for improvement, and recommend solutions.
- Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business models.
- Help define metrics to measure and demonstrate enterprise technology value.
- Assist with designing governance and standards activities to ensure technology architecture compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five years of design and implementation experience in IT.
- Understanding of lifecycle management, configuration management, impact, and risk analysis.
- Ability to account for technical and architectural debt.
- Leadership experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Candidate must be a qualified U.S. person for this role.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in data center technologies, including advanced cooling systems, fire suppression, and energy-efficient power solutions.
- Capable of specifying on-premise server hardware and storage technologies to fit solution requirements.
- Hands-on experience with server hardware, storage, virtualization, and operating systems.
- Ability to derive specifications of infrastructure hardware and work with vendors to review accuracy of quotations.
- Knowledge of other infrastructure technologies such as backups, monitoring, and automation tools.
- Understanding of security technologies such as SIEMs, PKI, IDS/IPS, encryption, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of identity-related technologies such as LDAP/Microsoft Active Directory, SSO, MFA, and RBAC.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and platforms.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of IT standards and controls.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- Expertise with Microsoft Azure.
- Knowledge of many components of enterprise architecture.
- Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
- Understanding of database operations.
- Knowledge of modeling languages (such as UML and ArchiMate).
- Knowledge of NIST 800-171, DFARS, Export Control, or CMMC 2.0 requirements and standards.
