Your opportunity:

Our rapidly growing Digital & Information Group is expanding, and we are seeking an IT Engineer Networks to join our newly established Digital Experience and Operations team.

The Digital & Information group is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today while transforming our future capabilities to enhance digital services for our customers, community, and people. We drive Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, oversee the digital portfolio, and manage IT, OT, data, IoT, security, infrastructure, system administration, network operations, and support services.

Reporting to the Lead, the IT Engineer - Network is accountable for providing advanced technical services, relevant consultative advice, process management and implementation to support the functions of the team. Utilising your advanced experience, you will ensure your work exemplifies a high level of technical expertise, quality and efficiency of operation, whilst assisting junior resources in attaining the same high standards.

With a specific focus on Network and Things Services support and delivery, you will be expected to engage at a deep technical capability with a variety of stakeholders to resolve issues and service requests and deliver sound and resilient solutions that will build trust and confidence in the suite of Urban Utilities Digital Network Services.

This role is responsible for supporting a collaborative work environment. You will achieve this by ensuring that both regular and more complex instances of work assignments are resolved in alignment with established Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). You will ensure that proactive support and maintenance activities are performed in alignment with operating expectations, solutions are delivered with efficiency, effectiveness and an enterprise approach in mind and that process documentation and standard operational procedures (SOPs) for the team’s technologies of responsibility are established and maintained; whilst reviewing the work of your colleagues for quality and accuracy.

You will also be expected to identify and resolve operational risks and opportunities for continuous improvement to all facets of technical and business solutions your team supports and where possible implement these improvements.

About you:

• Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area (Information Technology, Business Administration or related field)
• Certifications: Certifications relevant to technical field or supporting processes (Service Management, COBIT, ITIL, PRINCE2, CCNA, MSCE, etc) would be advantageous.
• Experience: Proven experience in designing, implementing, and supporting resilient and scalable digital solutions within an enterprise IT environment.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, with a strong focus on user experience, performance optimisation, and service reliability.
• Service Management: Solid understanding of ITIL practices, service management frameworks, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Customer-Centric Approach: A strategic, customer-focused mindset with a strong drive for continuous learning and improvement.
• Integrity & Authenticity: Demonstrates integrity, authenticity, and a respect for diverse perspectives in all aspects of work.
• Agility & Adaptability: Comfort with change and a proactive attitude toward embracing new challenges.
• Decision-Making: Strong planning, prioritisation, and decision-making abilities to achieve safe, effective outcomes.
• Security Requirements: Security clearance/SOCI requirements may apply, depending on the role and responsibilities.

Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.

The requirement to undertake ‘on call duties’ arises from the critical nature of the role including key responsibilities for ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services on a 24 hour 7 days per week basis to customers and the community across Urban Utilities’ geographic area in performing functions as a distributor-retailer under the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring Act 2009 (Qld). The remuneration for the role has been calculated to include compensation for the requirement to remain available to perform work during on call periods and for the performance of work outside the ordinary hours of work as part of on call processes and otherwise. In some instances, additional compensation and remuneration may apply.
