Job Description

The IT Director – Core Infrastructure Services (CIS) plays a crucial leadership role in deploying and effectively utilizing technology to support the university’s mission and strategic plan. This position is responsible for planning and directing administrative and operational activities related to Core Infrastructure Services and developing and guiding the implementation of CIS policies. The IT Director analyzes trends and legislated activities related to CIS, Information Technology Services (ITS), and university policies, budgets, and technology directions. As the CIS/ITS representative, the IT Director provides direction and guidance to IT professionals across the campus.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in a technical field is required with at least ten or more years of relevant and progressively more responsible experience in providing leadership and supervision in higher education technology services. A Masters degree is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven experience in a leadership role(s) within Core Infrastructure Services or related IT management positions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Strong expertise in managing and implementing core infrastructure services, including Endpoint, Compute, Cloud, and Data Infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex infrastructure challenges.
  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CCNA) are desirable but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the division in development and implementation of technology strategies and policies. Deploys resources to achieve objectives that align with the university’s mission and support its strategic plan. Directs administrative and operational activities of Core Infrastructure Services, including Endpoint, Compute, Cloud, and Data Infrastructure. Monitors and analyzes technology trends, legislation, and industry best practices to inform decision-making and strategic direction.
  • Meets on policy and technology issues with administrators, faculty, staff, and students of all levels. Works with leadership of other departments within academic and administrative units. Facilitates continuous improvement of division and campus-wide services and processes. Makes decisions that affect many departments and often the entire University. Has substantial latitude for independent action.
  • Provides hands-on expertise and guidance to other IT leaders in one or more specialized technology areas.
  • Implements and maintain robust security measures to protect the university’s core infrastructure services from potential threats and cyber-attacks. Ensures compliance with relevant industry standards, data protection regulations, and university policies.
  • Accountable for budget planning and controlling expenditures. Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to plan and manage budgets for CIS projects and initiatives. Optimizes the allocation of technology resources to meet the university’s academic and administrative needs. Recommends, specifies, or approves purchase of hardware, software, supplies and outside services for division, other areas, and sometimes the entire University. Responsible for recruitment, selection, supervision and development of staff division-wide.
