About the job:
The Operational Technologies Security Architect (OTSA) will join Enterprise Architecture team which is part of BC Hydro Technology Planning & Performance. OTSA will be delivering strategic directions and tactical decisions on key solutions and technologies for monitoring and control of physical devices, which are increasingly being used to automate the operations of electric power system. These software and hardware based foundational technologies (Industrial Control Systems) are needed to deliver critical business services across the organization. The OTSA is a specialist in processes and tools which overlap between information and operational technologies and guides delivery of pragmatic, cohesive and efficiently designed solutions. The OTSA is particularly familiar and able to provide guidance on the cyber security aspects of digital operating systems and integration with IT systems. OTSA partners up with key business and technology stakeholders to produce OT security strategies, roadmaps, plans, reference architectures, solution blueprints & designs to help guide technology investments and deliver quality solutions. This role also leads and mentors solution architects, SMEs and delivery teams assigned to various initiatives to ensure efficient execution of business imperatives and alignment to technology standards.
What you’ll do
• Deliver architecture visions, roadmaps, reference architectures and standards for OT cyber security in support of OT & IT planning, delivery and operations activities.
• Act independently as program or project architect for high risk and complex initiatives, ensuring that architecture elements are standardized and consistent.
• Identify risks and opportunities to maximize the return on OT cyber security and related investments through optimized architectures and prudent technology selection.
• Liaise with the stakeholders across different functional areas to gather, evaluate and level set solution requirements and constraints.
• Assess and provide recommendations on solution options pertaining to physical devices, firmware, software, communications network, cyber security and back-office IT&OT systems.
• Collaborate with planning/project/operations teams to reconcile solutions to the business challenge.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to internal resources and partners.
• Work collaboratively with team of fellow professionals delivering results within a tight timeline.
• Exercise professionalism in ensuring effective teamwork and fostering productive relationships.
• Stay abreast of technology standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
• Solid understanding of operational technologies, cybersecurity frameworks, processes and systems utilized in electric utilities and demonstrable experience in delivering architecture and designs as an enterprise or solution architect.
• In depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks, architecture and designs.
• In-depth knowledge of operational and information technologies and systems in at least two of the following: o Physical devices, IoT sensors, firmware and software typically used in electric utilities for industrial control and data acquisition. These include but not limited to PLC, RTU, DCS, SCADA and MES devices. o Networking, telecommunications and cyber security technologies, including non-IP protocols, LAN, WAN, WIFI, Microwaves, PBX, LTE, SIP, LDAP, Firewalls, IdAM, IDS/IPS, NAC, SIEM, tools for OT asset discovery, monitoring, vulnerability and patch management. o Solutions and platforms for grid management including but not limited to EMS, ADMS, OMS, SCADA, AMI, GIS and EAM.
• Solid understanding of emerging technology themes like OT-IT Convergence, Smart Grid, IIoT, Edge Computing and Advanced Analytics.
• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of applicable compliance and cyber security standards including NERC reliability standards (e.g. CIP, O&P) and NIST.
• Professional cyber security certifications e.g. CISSP, CISM, CISA.
• Business acumen combined with knowledge of industry standards and frameworks for delivering IT-OT architectures and/ or service management.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to keep the big picture in perspective.
• Experience explaining complex technical concepts to a nontechnical audience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience with facilitations and negotiations.
• Acumen to assess if a proposed solution will achieve desired business outcomes.
• Ability to rise, resolve and close issues to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
• Ability to consistently meet required deadlines.
