Summary

General Position Summary & Responsibilities

The JP Operations Intern will have the opportunity to directly assist the JP Manager and team members with a variety of tasks and projects. This years' project will focus on documenting routine maintenance procedures throughout the plant to ensure critical repairs and upkeep takes place.

The internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the Intern will learn how to take skills they may have acquired in school related to their areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. The intern will gain a better understanding of the site management and operations relative to the overall business.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the JP team to gain an understanding of how nonferrous metals are recovered and sold into metals markets.
  • Assist team with process engineering documentation to formalize daily, weekly, monthly repair and maintenance roles and processes across JP, 3DS and CRS systems.
  • Review, streamline and archive existing documentation for day-to-day plant operations.
  • Support the technology team on the commissioning of CRS and water filtration systems.
  • Performs special projects or other duties as needed or assigned.

Specific Other Responsibilities (regional, Local, Compliance, Etc.)

  • Intern will shadow commercial operations at times, as well as shadow shredder operations to gain a better understanding on nonferrous product sourcing and generation.
  • Provide a presentation on internship experience and lessons learned to leadership.

Job Conditions

Candidate will be regularly working in an industrial production environment in Oakland’s JP plant operations, with cubicle office space available for documentation and reporting review. Hours will primarily be 7am – 4pm with some evening/early morning shifts required to observe plant operations. Candidate will be working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Physical Activities Required To Perform Essential Functions

Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally; stand/sit for extended periods of time up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time up to 6-8 hours per day; communicate by phone, email and in person. Candidate will be required to wear company furnished Personal Protective Equipment while in designated high-risk areas and complete all safety training at start of employment.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled college undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite and internet research tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate information in writing and verbally and work well with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Cooperative attitude with team-oriented disposition.
