Insurance Accounting Manager
The Insurance Accounting Manager is responsible for various accounting duties centered around consolidation, US GAAP accounting and reporting, and reinsurance administration. This includes completing monthly and quarterly close, reconciliations, monthly analysis, financial statement preparation and assisting with general corporate matters. You will get the chance to learn and create new processes and work with business partners to automate and improve processes while producing high quality financial information. You will also ensure effective and efficient interpretation, communication and implementation of corporate accounting and reporting policies while monitoring and implementing changes in accounting and regulatory reporting requirements, as appropriate.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Understand and interpret technical accounting guidance required to account for insurance products on a US GAAP basis, including fair value accounting, while creating and implementing new processes to produce US GAAP basis financial statements.
- Provide technical and administrative direction to accounting staff ensuring all accounting activities are completed efficiently and effectively, in accordance with Statutory and GAAP reporting requirements as well as our contractual requirements, while ensuring departmental and organizational objectives are met.
- Review and/or assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports and analyses necessary to respond to special requests by senior management, regulatory agencies and/or other departments. Respond to information and assistance requests from both internal and external sources.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and complete analysis of operating results.
- Participate in any special projects to ensure financial accounting, reporting and company-wide operational issues are properly identified and addressed in a timely manner.
- Ensure management and regulatory reports are technically correct, accurate, filed on a timely basis and properly documented.
- Maintain Revol One internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit findings together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- Actively participate in process improvements by engaging business partners and executing changes needed to achieve straight-through processing.
- Work closely with team members to ensure effective communication.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting and/or finance
- 5+ years of experience in insurance accounting and reporting (Life & Annuity)
- Experience with both STAT and GAAP reporting
- Experience in reinsurance accounting preferred
- Excellent communication skills (written & oral)
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Desire to work in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment
- Proficient in key PC software including Excel and Oracle (preferred)
- Automation and process improvement experience
