PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE 1. Teaching responsibilities include but may not be restricted to undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Software Development. Other courses may be developed to fit the successful candidate's expertise and program demand as approved by the School Dean. 2. This position is expected to work closely with the Information Systems department in developing and delivering computer science and software development courses and programs. 3. Provides quality-learning experiences for all students enrolled in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining rigor and the basic integrity of the course's standards and objectives. 4. Provides an accessible course syllabus that states clear objectives and evaluation criteria for each course taught; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates appropriate College learning goals into each course, evaluates student performance in light of these objectives and criteria, and performs and reports routine assessment as required by the College, School, Department, or Program. 5. Teaches courses in a variety of modalities as required. 6. Advises students clearly and effectively. 7. Recommends course schedules to the School Dean and/or Department Chair; recruits and mentors adjunct instructors as assigned; recommends new courses as needed. 8. Develops good working relationships with professionals in this discipline in the College's service area in order to solicit cooperation and support for curricular planning and other functions. Other Related Duties 1. Assists in the College's student recruitment program as directed by the Department Chair, Supervising School Dean, or Vice President of Academic Affairs. 2. Serves as a resource to the community, which may include speaking to community groups, answering inquiries, assisting with research projects and workshops, conducting market demand and other types of institutional research, and performing other related tasks. 3. Assists in developing a well‑rounded, usable library collection in his/her discipline; teaches the proper use of library and Internet resources. 4. Works with staff of the various College service departments (e.g. Peer Tutor Center, Wellbeing and Accessibility, etc.). 5. Becomes familiar with the budgeting process of the college; assists with preparing annual and biennial budgets. 6. Assists the supervising chair in all activities as requested including attending school meetings, completing school duties and paperwork, and participating in other school activities as assigned. 7. Participates actively in the College's Assessment Program to develop a more effective learning environment for all Western students. 8. Assists part-time instructors on campus and in Western's outreach areas to maintain quality instruction consistent with campus programs; reviews applications of adjunct faculty. 9. Submits End of Year Assessment as required. 10. Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in office and other assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard Western physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices. 11. Stays current by attending conferences, seminars and workshops, and by reading appropriate professional literature. 12. Meets assigned deadlines. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 1. Master's Degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline (e.g. Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, etc.), or Master's Degree in any field, with 18 credits in Computer Science related coursework and/or certification from an accredited institution (degree completion required by August 2025), or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and six years of relevant work experience. 2. Comprehensive knowledge of the prevailing operating systems environments, including Unix, Linux, and Windows, advanced technologies, and methodologies to OWASP coding practices. 3. Effective oral and written communication skills. 4. Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students. 5. Recent coding experience in one or more of the following languages, Python, Java, JavaScript, Ruby or C++. Equivalency Statement For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable. Preferred Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an earned Masters or Doctorate in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related area. 2. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs. 3. Active participation in relevant professional organizations. 4. Demonstrated proficiency in college-level teaching for at minimum 2 years (or the equivalency of 2 years full-time); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement; community college experience preferred.
