The ETSU College of Nursing invites applications for two (2) 12-month Instructor faculty positions in the Department of Undergraduate Programs.
The twelve (12)-month academic, non-tenured faculty position will be expected to contribute primarily to teaching in the undergraduate nursing program and, dependent on academic preparation, qualifications and department needs, may be asked to teach in graduate nursing programs. This position requires faculty to engage in classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical-based teaching, supporting the development of future nursing professionals. The faculty member will join a dynamic group of nursing educators with a strong commitment to student success through innovative evidence-based teaching strategies, inter-professional collaboration, and fostering an environment where every student feels valued and supported.
Evening and weekend classes and clinicals may be required. Faculty may be assigned to work at any College of Nursing (CON) campus throughout the year. The main CON campus is in Johnson City, TN, and serves as the primary workstation for faculty. The CON also has two regional campuses, one in Sevierville and another in Kingsport. Faculty may be asked to teach at any campus to meet the needs of the CON.
The College of Nursing is part of the University's Academic Health Sciences Center, which also includes the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the College of Health Sciences. The College of Nursing is the largest in the State of Tennessee offering multiple tracks for students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Undergraduate Programs is home to over 45 full-time faculty and 700 students across five (5) tracks including the Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN (Johnson City, Kingsport, Sevierville), LPN-BSN, and RN-BSN/Dual Degree. The Department of Undergraduate Programs boasts a record of excellence with 60% of faculty holding specialty certifications and a strong record of collaboration and successful student outcomes. All programs in the College of Nursing are fully accredited by the CCNE.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job across various settings in the classroom, simulation, clinical, and/or community as required and/or needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be engaged in physical activities that involve prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, pulling/pushing, and assisting students in clinical, laboratory, and simulation environments. The employee must occasionally lift and carry clinical teaching materials and equipment (i.e. lift, carry, push, and pull) up to 100 pounds or more. The employee must be able to perceive and respond to sounds and alarms; communicate effectively with others; be able to observe and monitor situations and details at close range in full and dimmed light. The employee will provide clinical instruction in healthcare settings of up to 2-3 clinical courses per semester, with each clinical lasting up to twelve hours per day. Rapid mobility may also be required on occasion. The employee must be able to demonstrate and model clinical procedures and techniques, which may require physical dexterity and stamina.
Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Valid, current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or compact state.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience in nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or DNP in Nursing or Doctorate in related field; Master's degree in Nursing, with a concentration in Nursing Education or post-graduate certificate in Nursing Education.
- Certified Nurse Educator (CNE and/or CNEcl) and/or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
- Previous teaching experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
