SUMMARY: The Instructional Coach - K-12 Science is an educational professional and content expert whose job it is to help improve student achievement by building teacher capacity and an understanding of instructional practices by providing ongoing professional development, building their teaching skills and assisting them in applying new knowledge. The instructional coach specializes in a specific academic subject or area and supports the Curriculum Coordinator in facilitating vertical planning across grade levels. Their typical job duties include observing instructional practices, training teachers and staff, ordering new instructional materials, assisting with the design and implementation of a district wide, content specific scope and sequence, and ensuring instructional practice is in alignment with curriculum goals. Coaches also focus on different ways to improve learning opportunities for students and educators alike. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, professional learning, and providing feedback to teachers. They work collaboratively with Instructional Technology Specialists, various administrators, content leads and teachers to enhance teaching and learning in a virtual environment. Other responsibilities involve meeting with content leads and assessing students’ grades with the goal of helping teachers raise student achievement. This is not a supervisory position and reports directly to their content Curriculum Coordinator.

Demonstrate knowledge of K-12 science content standards
Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis
Support the instructional development of all teachers
Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, district leadership, curriculum coordinators and other coaches
Assist teachers in understanding GCA mission and core values as it relates to instruction
Provide technical support to teachers as needed
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources
Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels
Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students
Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success
Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility
Assist with the design and implementation of a district wide, content specific scope and sequence
Facilitate implementation of scope and sequence as well as the design of exemplar lesson plans
Stay current on subject area strategies, trends, initiatives, and changes in state standards from year to year
Develop and deliver professional development when needed
Assist with analyzing local, state, and national assessment data as it relates to individual student and school performance, as well as district improvement, focused on at-risk students
Collects and maintains monthly data for reporting to various stakeholders and for school board reports
Meets with leads, administration, collaborating teachers, students, and parents/Learning Coaches to discuss district goals and instructional plans as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Director, K-12 Curriculum & Instructional Programs Assistant Director, and/or Superintendent
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Education AND
Four (4) years of successful science teaching experience OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Certificates And Licenses
GA PSC Educational Certificate
Certification in Science Content Area for K-12
TKES/LKES credentialed
Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required

Pedagogical knowledge content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking
Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align those with GCA’s chosen curriculum, academic supplements, and reinforcement supports
Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines
Ability to work independently typically 40+ hours per week
Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in all school systems, programs, and curriculum as applicable
Ability to communicate well with school personnel, parents, students, and cabinet office staff while complying with the confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies
Ability to inspire teachers and school staff to meet school improvement initiatives and goals
Ability to display a professional attitude in working with school personnel with parents
Must be able to manage large volumes of paperwork and maintain adequate records
General knowledge of computers, computer commands, peripherals, and various operating systems.
Experience using search engines (internet) for research projects
Desire to research and learn new technology skills and platforms
Demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to interact positively with teachers, administrators, and support staff
Possess knowledge of the school improvement process
Must be an advocate for virtual learning and believe in the mission of Georgia Cyber Academy
Knowledge of state and federal laws, and other pertinent laws regarding K-12 Education as they relate to applicable duties
Knowledge of GaDOE CCRPI
Proficiency using computer-based software and online resources to develop training materials
Ability to read and interpret student academic data and educational reports
Familiarity with online learning environment
Experience working with diverse student populations
Advanced/Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Project, Visio, OneNote, and G-Suite.

This is primarily a Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, 5 days/week, home-based position that may require traveling up to 25% of the time.
During critical periods, in-office days may be required. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).
In-person attendance at professional development, training, conferences, job fairs, meetings, school events, marketing events, and testing sites will be required several times per year.
Light lifting required.
