Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for an
Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 3 (Simulation Technician). This position supports the Nursing program in the Workforce Education Division. This is a full-time, project-based, 10-month cyclic position, September through June. Beginning salary is $3,701 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $4,974, plus a full state benefits package.
This position has Leave Without Pay (LWOP) July - August of each year and may be subject to change.
This position has an anticipated end date of June 30, 2022, and is contingent upon continuous funding.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing Programs, the
Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 3 (Simulation Technician)performs a variety of tasks in support of the Workforce Division. This position participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing simulation experience. The technician will be an expert in health-specific computer-mediated learning and is responsible for the maintenance of the manikins and operating simulators used by Yakima Valley College.
This position involves a large amount of student contact in the lab assisting students in the simulation experience and also works closely with the Simulation Coordinator, the faculty in nursing programs to provide technical support in human patient simulation. In addition, while the simulation program is expanding some duties will be focused on supporting instruction as needed.

Essential Duties
- Install, replace, and configure simulation programs. Serve as a simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios. Ensure all equipment is set up for training and course programs.
- Actualize common healthcare procedures and principles as it applied to simulated medical experiences. Support/Assist in role-playing applications and scenario progression.
- Troubleshoot both hardware and software systems, network, and perform basic maintenance of simulation equipment. Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing equipment; ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order at all times. Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems.
- Implement high fidelity simulation activities that meet the standards of realism, reliability, validity, feasibility, and risk management.
- Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to provide simulated training experiences, including creation, implementation, and evaluation of the scenarios used in the simulation.
- Provides technical assistance, support, and training in the use of simulation equipment, as needed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates. Maintains other computerized equipment in the lab such as the Sim EMR cart. Provide recommendations for equipment and computer update maintenance and purchases.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in simulation equipment and industry updates, by Participation in technical training, attending conferences/seminars.
- Provide training and serve as a resource for staff utilizing the Human Patient Simulation lab and equipment.
- Identify opportunities for technological improvements in health care education.
- Apply health and safety regulations as mandated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration to utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the situation, emergency equipment, storage of chemicals, and maintenance of equipment.
- Participate in activities of the faculty team, attends meetings as an ad hoc member to discuss the simulation experience, and serve on departmental committees as elected or appointed.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of policies and standards for the use of the labs and equipment for faculty and student participants.
- Assists the Simulation coordinator with the management of vendors and various sales representatives related to all simulation activities.
- Participate in area simulation user groups and attend industry events as a representative of Yakima Valley College.
- Educate area administrators, technicians, and faculty members on using/implementing Human Patient Simulation. Remain accessible to faculty/staff for questions, support, etc.
- Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed.
- Basic computer, network, or printer troubleshooting.
- Comply with all college state and federal rules, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
- Comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and program policy mandates that protect the privacy of student educational records.
- May support other Professional Technical programs and complete other related duties as assigned
Knowledge Of
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Simulation manikin hardware and software systems, including networking and basic maintenance of simulation equipment.
- Working knowledge of multiple types of operating systems and wireless technology.
- Working knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
- Microsoft Office and virtual meeting environments.
Ability To
- Use and operate different simulator technology.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve concerns and technical issues.
- Coordinate with multiple departments to accomplish project tasks.
- Work overtime, including occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
- Communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with faculty, staff, professionals, students, and the public.
- Organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes with high attention to detail.
- Learn and incorporate new technology and all its functionality.
- Follow oral and written instructions, must be an organized visionary, and detail-oriented.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, students, and community to create a positive environment.
- Utilize technology for presentations to a variety of stakeholders including, the campus community, parents, students, K-12 staff, and community partnerships.
- Represent the institution on Workforce professional/technical program(s) accurately and positively to all constituents.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to independently move equipment up to 50lbs & move equipment more than 50lbs with the assistance of others.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged and considerable amounts of time.
- Must be able to occasionally reach, stoop, bend, kneel and crouch while performing duties of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in computer science, technology, or medical simulation from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Four years of experience providing academic support to students or similar experiences.
- OR - an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous experience with simulation technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, technology, or medical field from a regionally accredited college or university.
