The Injection Mold Designer will be responsible for all injection mold designs from concept through fabrication and into production. This is a demanding position and requires a dedicated individual capable of working in a fast paced environment. Although injection mold design will be the primary focus of this position, other responsibilities and duties may arise depending on incoming projects.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience designing plastic injection molds.
  • Be familiar with molding rigid PVC, ABS, and glass-filled resins.
  • Must be proficient in designing molds with SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with designing molds with various hot runner systems.
  • Ability to coordinate, manage, and document mold revisions with the shop floor.
  • Assist in reviewing mold designs for Production Management and Processing Engineers.
  • Ability to work with outside vendors and mold shops to obtain pricing for purchased mold components and services.
  • Utilize Mold-Flow software and assist Process Engineers with gate design and location.
  • Work with hot runner vendors on optimal gate location and design for new and existing molds.
  • Work with the Process Engineer on existing molds to ensure the molds are operating at an optimal level.
  • Lead and coordinate tool design meetings and communicate with Programmers and the shop floor.
  • Work with the shop floor to reverse engineer complex mold components.

Knowledge/Educational Requirements

  • Prior experience in the plastic injection molding industry as a Mold Designer is required.
  • Good overall understanding of injection molding processes and related tooling.
  • Familiarity with vocabulary and terms used in the injection molding industry.
  • Machining experience is a plus.

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD software is desired.
  • The ability to read and understand 2D prints and 3D geometry is a must.
  • Must possess strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Must be competent at documenting, organizing files, and have strong note-taking skills.
  • Good troubleshooting and multitasking characteristics are also desired.
