Summary

šŸ“Location: Remote or Hybrid (SF or NYC)

We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineering Manager to lead the charge on performance, reliability, and internal tools at ReadMe! You’ll manage a team responsible for making sure our site is fast, stable, and scales beautifully, while also empowering our developers with the tools they need to build their best work. If you're looking for a player-coach role where you can lead a team and still write code, this is the role for you!

We're a small team of humans (and one owl ) working together to shape the developer landscape through documentation—and we’re growing! That’s where you come in.

šŸ¦‰ Who We Are

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Apple or Notion, you’ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it’s so much more than just docs. We’re providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease. You can read more about what it’s like to work at ReadMe on our careers page.

We've written on our blog in the past about how we interview, and feel free to browse our other blog posts as well if it strikes your fancy!

āœ… What You'll Do Here

  • Lead a team that designs and builds infrastructure and tooling to make sure ReadMe’s data storage is fast, reliable, and secure.
  • Help expand the tooling for our observability platform to ensure that developers can make good use of logging, metrics, and alerts.
  • Add features to Deploybert — our internal automation system for deploying code to production — to support new services and expand its capabilities
  • Come up with ideas around what ReadMe’s infrastructure should look like, and communicate them to your coworkers.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and people around ReadMe.

šŸ’™ You'll love this job if you are...

  • An experienced Engineering Manager who has developed server-side software with Node.js or a similar language.
  • Comfortable designing production infrastructure and implementing your ideas, leveraging technologies from service providers like AWS and Cloudflare. (It would be a bonus if you’ve got experience using a tool like Terraform to build infrastructure as code, although it’s not necessary.)
  • Passionate about making products that people love.

🌱 How You'll Grow Within One Month

  • Become familiar with the ReadMe team and product.
  • Become familiar with ReadMe’s current infrastructure.
  • Be involved in planning meetings for upcoming features

🪓 Within a few months, you'll...

  • Begin developing infrastructure capabilities to support ReadMe’s latest projects and architecture.
  • Begin to form opinions on what ReadMe’s infrastructure will look like moving forward.
  • Pick up larger tasks with direction and support from other team members.
  • Review code written by others with confidence, applying best practices along the way.

🌳 Within your first year, you'll...

  • Guide internal initiatives for technical improvements to the infrastructure codebase.
  • Advise other team members on architectural decisions based on your expertise.
  • Have created a well-defined idea for what infrastructure will look like moving forward, and begun prototyping and realizing that design!

šŸ›£ļø What’s the hiring process like?

  • We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about Infrastructure Engineering, and help us get to know you better!
  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with the hiring manager! They’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.
  • We’ll then do a technical assessment with a couple of ReadMe’s engineers.
  • Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.
  • We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our Benefits Include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. šŸ
  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and your dependents. 🩺
