Mount Pleasant Group (MPG) is a not-for-profit organization that has been caring for families in the GTA since 1826. It is made up of two affiliated companies: the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries (MPGC) and Canadian Memorial Services (CMS), collectively referred to as MPG. MPGC owns and manages ten (10) cemeteries and four (4) crematoriums across the Greater Toronto Area, while CMS delivers funeral services to its customers at nine (9) locations across the region. These include funeral centres located at several MPGC cemeteries, as well as standalone funeral centres known as “The Simple Alternative”. About the Position:

The Infrastructure & Cloud Architect (Architect) plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s hybrid IT infrastructure, combining on-premises systems with cloud-based services. This position requires a deep understanding of virtualized environments, cloud technologies, server and network management, and security practices. The architect will lead and oversee the strategic direction of IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security across both physical and cloud environments.


The successful candidate will be required to:

 

Server & Cloud Administration

  • Set up, configure, and maintain virtual servers using VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V technologies.
  • Administer and support a range of critical server roles, including Domain Controllers, File Servers, Email Servers, Web Servers, and specialized applications such as Citrix, Navision, and Veeam.
  • Manage and secure cloud-based services, including Microsoft Azure Active Directory, InTune, and 365.
  • Oversee storage and storage area networks such as Nimble, Pure Storage, and Exagrid, ensuring data security and availability.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and test a comprehensive disaster recovery plan, including reliable backup and restoration processes for critical servers and applications.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and apply updates to ensure servers and applications are operating at peak efficiency.
  • Use advanced security software to monitor and respond to potential cyber threats targeting servers.

 

Hybrid Infrastructure Management

  • Manage and maintain the hybrid IT environment, including on-premises servers and Azure-based cloud infrastructure.
  • Monitor system performance and optimize resource allocation across both environments during and after the cloud migration.
  • Oversee the transition from legacy infrastructure to Azure, ensuring minimal downtime and operational impact.
  • Ensure proper segregation and data security between environments such as Production, Test, and Development.
  • Maintain and manage Microsoft 365 applications and services, ensuring secure integration with cloud and on-prem systems.


Network Administration

  • Act as the primary liaison between the organization and MSPs to ensure SLA compliance and operational efficiency
  • Provide oversight on MSP-driven projects, such as network infrastructure upgrades and security initiatives.
  • Coordinate with MSPs for network installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and ongoing management of network services.
  • Collaborate with service providers to ensure optimal performance of WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, and VPN systems.
  • Oversee security protocols, including firewalls, MFA tools, and intrusion detection systems, ensuring alignment with cybersecurity best practices.

 

Database Administration

  • Administer and maintain SQL servers and databases, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
  • Monitor database systems proactively to address potential performance issues.
  • Manage account permissions and access policies for database users in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Perform database upgrades and maintain compatibility with evolving systems.
  • Develop and execute regular backup strategies to safeguard organizational data.


Project Management

  • Develop project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns promptly
  • Track project progress, prepare status reports, and ensure that project milestones are met.
  • Ensure that all project deliverables meet the required quality standards and client expectations


Unified Communications Administration

  • Manage Microsoft Teams, Cisco Call Manager and Unity servers, including provisioning, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform configuration, programming, and deployment of phone sets and related hardware to support business communication needs.
  • Administer cloud-based Microsoft Intune servers to ensure secure and efficient mobile device management.


Other

  • Additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the Manager, IT Infrastructure


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking or equivalent combination of work experience, training, and education.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience in IT administration with experience in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience in providing second/third-level support.
  • A valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence, acceptable driver’s abstract, and vehicle for site visits.
  • Azure certifications are an asset.
  • VMWare Certified Technical Associate - Network Virtualization certification is an asset.
  • Experience with Freshdesk or other cloud-based ITSM systems is an asset.
  • Experience with ERP system such as Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2016 or Business Central is an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of cloud platforms, particularly Azure, and their integration with on-premises systems.
  • Proficiency in administering Microsoft 365 and Azure AD.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to oversee complex migrations and collaborations.
  • Exceptional communication skills to interface with MSPs, vendors, and internal teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of IT regulations and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including firewall management, intrusion detection, and antivirus technologies.
  • Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Office, and Outlook.
