Job Overview

Assist in the prevention, detection and control of infections as mandated by the Infection Control Committee. Perform surveillance of infections and maintaining records of infections. Identify clinical situations of epidemic potential and intervenes to prevent infection. Prepare statistical reports based on data analysis. Facilitate process improvement initiatives for the prevention of infection. Assists in meeting all state and federal regulations and compliance as well as CDC,APIC, SHEA & JCAH standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current New Jersey license - Registered Professional Nurse or ASCP certified Medical Technologist eligible.
  • Current Certification by the National Certification Board of Infection Control, CIC or acquired within two years of hire.
  • Completion of the APIC Northeastern Infection Control Course or equivalent SHEA training.
  • Baccalaureate degree in health related field.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with nursing and all appropriate departments for the prevention of infection
  • Complies with healthcare associated MRSA reporting to the NJDHSS.
  • Consults on infection risk assessment, prevention and control strategies
  • Identifies epidemiologically important diseases and/or organisms and intervenes to control
  • Implements changes mandated by regulatory & licensing agencies
  • Maintains current knowledge in infection prevention and control practices.
  • Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations & participates in networks of Infection Control & Epidemiology program/research professionals
  • Observes and evaluates practices related to the prevention of healthcare associated infections at all levels of health care.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement initiatives & research.
  • Performs surveillance activities and applies an epidemiological approach to problem solving
  • Provides education to healthcare workers directed at interventions to prevent infections
  • Provides high quality services in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Complies with communicable disease reporting via the CDRSS, TB 70 and NHSN
