Unit Overview The Infection Control Department at GW Hospital plays a vital role in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors by preventing and controlling the spread of healthcare-associated infections. The team collaborates across disciplines to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices, regulatory standards, and hospital policies. Position Summary The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections throughout the hospital. This role conducts data collection, analysis, and reporting to regulatory agencies; supports outbreak investigations; and drives infection prevention initiatives across departments. The coordinator educates staff and fosters a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities * Conduct infection surveillance and ensure timely reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) * Lead investigations of infection outbreaks and recommend corrective actions * Educate staff on infection prevention practices and regulatory updates * Collaborate with clinical leaders to implement evidence-based protocols * Prepare and submit infection-related reports to health authorities (e.g., CDC/NHSN, DC DOH) * Serve as a resource on infection prevention for all hospital departments * Monitor compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, and sterilization processes Benefits Summary * Medical, dental, and vision insurance * 401(k) with employer match * Generous paid time off and holidays * Tuition reimbursement and continuing education support * $100 monthly commute subsidy * Metro stipends * Competitive relocation benefits Qualifications Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Microbiology, or related field * Previous experience in infection prevention/control * Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting * Knowledge of NHSN, The Joint Commission, and CMS infection control standards Preferred QualificationsInfection Pre * Master's degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field * Current DC RN license or other relevant clinical license/certification * Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of hire About Universal Health Services One of the nation's largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services, Universal Health Services, Inc.
