SUMMARY OF JOB The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections, investigation of infection or clusters of infections as warranted, microbiological monitoring of the healthcare environment and remediation as warranted, targeted education, consultation, administration and continued professional development. Under the aegis of the Infection Control Committee, the Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for monitoring patients with infectious diseases, detecting and tracking Hospital Acquired Infections and coordinating hospital-wide measures pertaining to Infection Prevention, including surveillance reporting, education and observation. The Infection Prevention Coordinator serves as an advisor to the Lifecare and Homecare divisions. The Infection Prevention Coordinator routinely interacts with personnel from nearly all departments, especially those departments that provide direct or indirect patient/resident care or whose responsibilities impact on materials utilized by patients/residents. Educational efforts aimed at heightening awareness of nosocomial infection, how to minimize infection among patients/residents, and how to minimize occupational risks of infection are presented to employees as well as to more specifically targeted occupational subgroups. RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS This position requires strong competence in the areas of patient care practices, infectious diseases, epidemiology and statistics, microbiologic practice, sterilization and disinfection, construction, emergency preparedness, education, employee health services, management and communication. Knowledge of budgetary matters and computer literacy is needed. Strong communication skills, both written and oral are necessary. The individual must have good problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills. LICENSE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing and Registered Nurse licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology or Health-Related Field. Certified in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control. Certification to be obtained within 6 months of initial start date.
