Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) Industrial Hygienst will provide ongoing support to help ensure the compliance and management of asbestos and other hazardous substances throughout ESB premises.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role will include:
Asbestos Management: Support project teams in scoping and specifying asbestos management, ensuring compliance with regulations and guidelines.
Safety Guidance: Advise on and implement safety legislation related to asbestos and other hazardous materials, and contribute to safety training material development.
Documentation and Surveys: Ensure proper documentation (RAMS) from contractors and compliant asbestos and other hazardous materials surveys, reviewing technical reports and conducting quality assurance audits.
Technical Support: Provide technical assistance for monitoring asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and assess lower-risk asbestos works.
Project Coordination: Manage asbestos removal work, coordinate consultants for demolition projects, and ensure compliance with disposal guidelines.
Quality Management: Implement quality management systems for hazardous materials, support chemical safety management, and produce comprehensive reports.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with key stakeholders, support risk assessment development, and provide advice on complex health and safety issues, including occupational hygiene and Legionella management.
Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Full valid, driving Licence and access to a car and willing to travel both locally and regionally and international if required.
A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in industry.
Specialist knowledge of Health, Safety Legislation & Standards
Desirable
Excellent team working skills.
Strong communication, influencing and leadership skills.
British Occupational Hygiene Society modules:
P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos.
P403 and P404 or equivalent are required.
P405 Management of Asbestos
M501 Measurement of Hazardous Substances
M505 Control of Hazardous Substances
P901 Management and Control of Legionella
Previous surveying experience of 5 years, including industrial experience and should be able to demonstrate experience of refurbishment and pre-demolition surveys.
Experience in writing and maintaining policies and procedures for health and safety practices will be an advantage.
Ability to project-manage own work, the successful applicant will be an all-rounder, flexible, will have a good work ethic, good attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
Essential
Diploma/ Degree in Science, Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
Location
This position will be based at our EMP offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate, Cork.
Travel to and from other EMP office locations and generation stations sites will feature as part of this role.

Reporting to
The successful candidate will report to Generation Engineering, Chemical Services Manager. Local reporting arrangements may apply to the location.
Salary
€57,000 to €68,000 per annum
