Industrial Network Engineer
Job Description
Industrial Networking Solutions (INS) is seeking a highly motivated and accountable associate for a Network Engineer position within our field services group. This position is responsible for the technical support, technical solution and development for systems that promote the customer’s ruggedized networking strategy. INS engineered solutions will be in support of our customer’s culture of high quality, affordable, reliable, and secure products. This position will frequently collaborate with customer leadership for best solution, and interface directly with operational and IT leaders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
3–5 years of experience designing and implementing IT/OT networks in industrial environments
Proficiency in Layer 2 technologies, including VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), and redundancy protocols like REP
Strong knowledge of Layer 3 concepts such as routing, EIGRP, and static route design for industrial applications
Basic understanding of Layer 1, including:
The difference between multimode and single-mode fiber optics
Knowledge of copper run limitations (e.g., 100m maximum for Ethernet) and its implications for topology design
Fundamentals of Power over Ethernet (PoE), including power classes, device compatibility, and design considerations for powering network devices such as access points, cameras, and VoIP phones
Experience with network devices such as Cisco, Hirschmann, Peplink, or similar equipment
Familiarity with industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP (preferred)
Experience integrating smaller wireless solutions (e.g., cellular modems or Wi-Fi APs) into broader networking projects
Proficiency in creating detailed network diagrams using Visio or equivalent tools
Proven ability to manage projects from planning to implementation, including scope definition, resource allocation, and budget management
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure environments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction
Ability to design networks tailored to customers' risk tolerance and operational requirements
Technical writing skills for documenting network designs and configurations
Responsibilities
Design, configure, and implement traditional IT/OT network solutions, including switches, routers, and firewalls
Conduct site surveys, create network designs, and oversee installations of wired and wireless components as needed
Collaborate with the wireless division on co-platform projects or smaller-scale wireless implementations, including cellular and Wi-Fi systems
Manage network projects from inception to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met
Develop and maintain project documentation, including network diagrams, risk assessments, and status reports
Incorporate customer risk adversity into network designs, ensuring redundancy, reliability, and operational resilience
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to industrial networking
Act as a technical point of contact for clients, ensuring satisfaction and addressing concerns promptly
Create bill of materials for network proposals
Additional Responsibilities
Work duties will require frequent travel (approximately 50%) in the US to customers in industrial environments.
Must reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Willing to work in person at INS offices in Plano, TX.
Able to legally work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Able to pass criminal background check and drug testing.
Teamwork
This position requires technical collaboration and an understanding of emerging technologies for unique solutions. This position requires an understanding and appreciation of multiple job roles, and frequently requires a team effort with sales, operations, management, IT and other engineering disciplines. This position must provide effective and positive feedback to INS team members on difficult solutions and must be able to describe technical requirements to other team members for a successful solution.
