Job Summary The Inclusion Companion assists community recreation leaders in providing recreation programs for children and adults with special needs in a safe environment. Qualifications Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred Must be at least 16 years of age Must go through Agency orientation for part-time staff CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain it Schedule Part-time. Number of hours and days might vary depending on the employee's availability. Duties Actively support and follow through with the community recreation provider’s safety program. Assist in recreation activities for various special populations in a variety of community based programs. Communicate with Site Director, staff, and parents/guardians Attend to participants' personal care (toileting, changing clothes) Assist the participants with the activity and with any accommodations needed Perform all job tasks within the rules and regulations of the Agency’s policies, procedures, and safety program Physical Demands Gather, load, transport and set-up equipment and supplies for activities. Supervise individuals, including at times the use of physical restraints. Physically assess individuals in wheelchairs by pushing, pulling or providing stabilization on unknown terrain. Physically transfer individuals from wheelchair to chair, into and out of vehicles, from pool deck into pool, in washroom facilities, etc. Lift and carry as much as 50 pounds for as long as 300 feet.
