Directly supervising seven (7) staff, the purpose of this position is to provide HR generalist services to the Head Office, Distribution Centre, Transportation, and Store Operations “client groups” across Canada. Four (4) direct reports providing HR Generalist support are situated in on-site work locations, one direct (1) report provides HR Generalist support remotely, and two direct reports provide head office receptionist & basic HR administration support, heavily focused on Health & Safety.
What will you do?
Provides Coaching/Support/Progressive Discipline for Client Groups: partners with HR Generalists to provide coaching and assistance on performance management, progressive discipline, compensation, return to work, legal considerations and staff planning as they relate to company policies and procedures. Serves as second-level escalation point to employees. Where required, engages other HR staff with specialist knowledge (e.g. training, benefits, health and safety) to assist in developing alternative recommendations
Participates in HR and Client Group projects as assigned (includes research, development of proposals, presentations to Client Groups, roll out planning & implementation). Acts as project lead for small groups.
Strategic Planning: participates in the development of departmental projects/initiatives. Remains accountable to their achievement and provides updates on at least a monthly basis. Proactively partners with Client Groups to identify HR resources required to support their departmental objectives.
Policies & Procedures: responsible for staying abreast on all applicable employment legislation. Researches, provides recommendations and/or drafts new policies and procedures, as appropriate. Is a trusted contributor to other HR team members in the development of HR programs such as new hire orientations, new hire training, and employee coaching & development.
Health & Safety: Oversees the Workers’ Compensation Program. Partners with the Manager, Safety & Risk to participate in Health & Safety program development and roll-out. Sits on the Head Office Joint Health & Safety Committee.
Recruiting: As required by Talent Acquisition, participates in the interview process. Provides recommendations on recruitment collateral and events such as job fairs and recruiting events. Proactively partners with Talent Acquisition to identify potential areas of turnover in the Client Groups and potential root causes.
What will you need to succeed?
Education and Experience
Post-Secondary education with a focus in Human Resources Management
5 years of progressive HR experience
Knowledge of Canadian labour standards in the provinces where Company operates
Good overall knowledge of Workers Compensation and Health & Safety regulations
Strong experience with Employee Relations and Human Rights complaints
Ability to coordinate and process HR forms / data in an effective manner
Supervisory experience
Must be able to travel to stores and distribution centres, as needed, including meeting federal COVID-19 requirements for interprovincial flights
