Description
This position is categorized as Full-Time, hourly, non-exempt. The workload for this position is varied based on the time of the year. This position's average hours for the year are required to be above 35 hours per week, with more hours during the peak-season (averaging 40-50+ hours per week during March-June) and less during the off-season (approximately 30-40 hours per week during the remainder of the year.) Flexibility on weekends is required as the HR office is staffed 7 days a week. This position may also be called upon to help in other departments as directed by management. The HR Generalist starting wage is $25.00 - $28.00 per hour.
Essential Functions/Duties
The HR Generalist coordinates the day-to-day human resource functions at Tagawa Gardens, and may supervise anywhere from 1-2 part-time or full-time HR Assistants (based on business needs) to provide coverage 7 days a week during business hours within the HR department, and cover all of the following duties:
Workforce Planning, Training, and Recruiting –
Assess staffing and recruiting needs and works with the HR Assistant(s)/Recruiter to:
- Meet with supervisors to assess seasonal staffing requirements.
- Source for potential candidates using approved recruiting strategies (e.g. post ads in newspaper/website, hold internal job fairs, etc.)
- Follow current local state and federal requirements for internal and external job postings. Update job requirements and job descriptions for all positions posted, or as needed internally
- Manage applicant flow and keep paperwork regarding applicant correspondence within the necessary timeframes.
- Phone Screen & Schedule interviews for potential employees
- Interview applicants and coordinate with supervisors to ensure staffing needs are met.
- Complete orientation and all onboarding/hiring paperwork with newly hired staff
- Complete pay analysis for positions (including benchmarking/paygrades) in order to recommend pay structures to management in order to help find and retain the right candidates.
- Maintain employee tracking (start & release dates, rewards, increments, promotions etc.)
- Assist supervisors and managers with ongoing training initiatives. Set up and coordinate in-house staff training
Reporting / Paperwork Compliance
- Compile information for management as directed for weekly labor hours reports based on schedules, departments worked or as indicated.
- Review and suggest updates to handbook and employee paperwork to meet federal/state guidelines. o Coordinate with TGE HR Manager to enact and update handbooks and paperwork after legal counsel reviews.
- Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements and assisting in conducting investigations and representing the organization at hearings when applicable.
- Update job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
- Responsible for upkeep of Employee Personnel Files and paperwork flow for all employees (including new staff, current staff, and those terminated per HR guidelines)
- Maintain Archive employee records and follow retention standards.
- Give suggestions and assist management with implementing new policies/procedures.
- Assist with training of current staff on both new and existing protocols.
- Assist Supervisors/Management with any performance improvement and counseling needs
- Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal requirements, and by maintaining manager and employee confidence by keeping human resource information confidential.
Safety / Worker Compensation
- Complete necessary paperwork for any injury/illness to be reported to Brighton Human Resources office within required time frame (4 days).
- Meet with Insurance Representatives, Fire Department, Colorado Department of Agriculture, and/or any other groups as indicated by management for inspections, assess liabilities, and ensure the completion of directives to reduce risk and improve safety for employees and guests at Tagawa Gardens.
- Responsible for upkeep of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure we are in compliance with Federal and Colorado Department of Agriculture requirements.
- This position sits on the Safety Committee for Tagawa Gardens as the chair, and must provide materials and input in order to help create a safe culture within the company.
- Assist TGE HR Manager with paperwork related to FMLA, ADA, and Worker Compensation practices as needed.
Payroll / Employee Relations
- Be the main contact for Paylocity labor tracking system. With HR Assistant(s), correct errors as needed, and update system as per TGE HR Manager. Train staff as needed on this payroll system.
- Responsible for paperwork related to Time-Off Requests, Vacation Time, Managed-Time-Off, FMLA, and other types of leave.
- Provide input and assistance to management/supervisors regarding decisions related to employee coaching/counseling or disciplinary action. Lead coaching sessions as directed by management or situation. Manage paperwork for PIPs (Professional Improvement Process).
- Build professional relationships with supervisory and management staff by following up on communication, assisting with paperwork completion, and following-up on employee related issues in a timely manner.
- Track employee performance evaluations. Provide input and updates pertaining to evaluation forms as approved by management, and edit forms, coordinate and distribute, collect and calculate numerical totals and other tasks related to evaluations as needed.
- Monitor employee morale, conduct and analyze stay & exit interviews, and recommend changes to help improve employee retention, safety, and company culture.
- Assist TGE HR office with enrollment of employee benefits on-site. Answer benefit questions and assist in processing life events and open enrollment for insurance, 401K etc.
- Coordinate exit process for departing employees. Complete termination paperwork and report terminations to TGE HR Office with assistance from HR Assistants
- Coordinate and complete travel plans for staff for industry events, including out of state hotels, air travel tickets, and registration for all classes, tradeshows etc. All classes/events/tradeshow/travel is to be approved by owner/general manager via sign off sheet.
In addition to the duties listed above, the HR Generalist may be required to assist with other departments as assigned by the General Manager. This includes but is not limited to assisting with scheduling and assisting with sales or customer service duties.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
- As of June 2018, all candidates hired, rehired, or promoted into administration or supervisory roles must satisfactorily complete a background check to be eligible for this position.
- Required 2 years' minimum combined experience in any of the following areas:
- Human Resources
- HRIS
- Payroll Administration / Benefits & Compensation
- Safety/Compliance
- Staffing/Recruiting/Sourcing
Training/Education
- HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent education is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, or other related field preferred, but not required.
- Must maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating to applicants, customers/clients, guests, managers, co-workers, and staff in a respectful and timely manner.
- Must be able to interpret both verbal and written forms of communication in English, and communicate in a positive, professional, and timely manner without disclosing confidential employee or management information. Fluency or some language competence in Spanish preferred, but not required.
- Must have intermediate computer skills including MS Office (especially MS Excel and Word), Apple iOS, and Adobe PDF. Some experience with Paylocity (employee time clock system) or other related HR systems highly preferred but not required.
- As all positions within Tagawa Gardens require assisting other departments during critical times in the peak season, this position requires that you are able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 25lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- PHR, SHRM-CP or related certification preferred, but not required.
